whats on the back of my couch in my 2720sl?

there is a aluminum sliding tube with plastic hooks on the ends hooked to the back of my couch. does anyone know what this is for? i called trailmanor to ask what it was but they never got back to me. if anyone can help i would appreciate it. thank you.

it is the "rafter" for the awning - if hooks in the middle and provides support for the awning cloth.
