Thetford Curve Pump
I am considering the purchase of a Thetford Curve. I know a lot of TM owners use them and am wondering about some bad reviews I have read regarding the pump. Has anyone had to replace the pump? I understand it costs nearly as much as the entire toilet.

Hi Ed, I've had my Curve for three years now and we haven't had any issues or failures. I've replaced the batteries annually and it's worked flawlessly. Best mod that I added to our TM.

Call me crazy but after I installed the curve and mounting plate, and loved how well it works without any smell, I ordered a "spare" unit. So not only do I have an instant spare parts inventory but I also have a second bottom tank that allows me to swap the holding tank when we are closing up the unit to break camp.
This allows me to put the dirty tank in the truck as we pull out of the park while the clean second tank is already in the closed up TrailManor in place for the next camp out.
If the dump facility has a long line of dumpers, I then just drive home and dump the full tank at home. This also allows me to clean and freshen the holding tank to repeat the above process for the next camp out.
Some might say why don't I just use one curve unit and when we set up camp, just install the clean one then. The answer? One less thing to mess around with when setting up camp. When we set up the bathroom walls, the toilet is ready to go other than perhaps topping it off with more water.

That's a great idea, especially given the reports of the pump giving up the ghost and then costing nearly as much as an entire unit... I haven't used my TrailManor enough (only one weekend immediately after we bought it last October) to form an opinion one way or the other on the recirculating toilet. The test will be when my wife with her bionic nose camps with us. But if we have issues with the recirculating toilet we may look into the Thetford Curve as a replacement.

Shane, I understand completely about a wife and a bionic nose , Trust me. lol
We have now used our magic 80 recirc. toilet on 3 outings and no odor no problems. The curve does look like a nice replacement option.

I yank mine out when I get home (don't always bother dumping at the CG if I'm in a hurry, too!) and take it to the basement for a dump/clean. I let it sit with Happy Camper for days (until I remember to go back down) and rinse until clean. Then, it's ready to pop back in place when I load up the camper w/food, beverage, clothing, etc. for the next trip.
I contemplated getting a second one to do exactly what you're doing, but I couldn't figure out how it would help me, as I don't need the Curve in the TM when the TM is parked in my garage, and I can put it in the bathroom when I'm restocking for the new trip.
Like you, I would replace in a heartbeat. Plus, with the plate installed, the replacement would literally be a drop-in, no different than putting this one back. Therefore, I have zero concerns about maintainence/function.

The primary difference between what I'm doing with the spare holding tank and what you are doing is that I generally can't (and don't) open up my TrailManor prior to leaving the house.
I keep the unit in the garage. I can't open the unit in my driveway because the slope is significant enough to to rip off the front shell should I try. The only way to open the unit up prior to camping is to open it up in the street which calls for three Lego lifting blocks on the curb side to compensate for the crown in the road.
Given the trouble of trying to open the unit up before leaving for camp, I don't bother. Therefore the nice, fresh, clean second holding tank comes in handy. I pack the clean one in the truck and before we break camp to head for home, pull the full tank out and swap it with the clean one, then close up the shells.

Make sense! In your situation, I would do exactly the same.
