Default Installing cam latch for door

I am looking at installing a cam latch to hold the two halves of the door together better. I have a hook and eye arrangement now. I see the newer trailers have a cam latch similar to this:

http://www.cshardware.com/fw-1428.ht...FbFFMgodDTsA3g

The lower half of the door sags a fair amount and I have to pull the door up to get the latch into the hole. Also the door is quite sloppy overall.

Any advice on this? Problems I might be ignoring? Should I install so it pulls the two halves completely together?

Thanks.

I don't see any reason not to add the cam latch. Just make sure the door is aligned as you want, in the closed position, before drilling holes.

Both of my doors have had a sag when they are open, so I have to pull up on the bottom door to align the cam latch, but after that there are no problems.

Thumbs up Cam Lock

I made this mod and the door is so much more solid now. Well worth the bit of time. I had to shim the top piece out from the door about a quarter inch to align the latch halves but that was the only "surprise" I encountered. I used well-nuts in the door to make the attachment.

Glad it worked! There normally is at least one surprise in every project.

Could somebody post a picture of their installed cam latch? I am finally getting around to installing mine. But it doesn't look like I have much room to put it because of the big rubber flap that runs across the top section. A picture would help me greatly. Thank you

So cam latch = home window lock? Seems like a much more secure way to connect the door halves opposed to a hook & eye lock!
