Default geocaching

I see from various threads some of you are geocachers. I wonder if a TM owners geocaching event is worth while? Camping and geocaching at the same time !

Like others on this board, we do a lot of geocaching while camping in the TM, but we have never attended an "event". Like the star-gazing events, it might be fun. On the other hand, I have never been a fan of the plague-of-locusts approach to finding caches.

In my personal experience (hosting 3 and attending 24) The events are more about socializing than actually finding geocaches. Even when we go geocaching en masse, it's really just an excuse for us all to stay together and have a good time talking it up. I couldn't care less who finds the geocache itself (and lots of times don't even bother to log them)

Our local geoaching group holds at least one campout/event a year down here. We should be scheduling it for April, if anyone is interested. We'd love to have you come.

The state park we usually hold it in has 24 geocaches placed in it. Some are nightime only hunts, some you have to use a boat (on site canoe rentals are available), and we even have a whereigo type cache here.

Here is a link to last years:

and our next day breakfast event for those that stayed and camped with us

We should be doing the same again this year. BTW, my geocaching nick is LSUFan

wmtire is correct the event cache is not intended for a group to go out and geocache; in fact it wouldn't get approved if that was the events' function.

Events can be a pot luck supper, a means to introduce geocaching to non-geocachers, or maybe some kind of 101 how to. After the event many times groups will go out in "locust" mode.

from sandhill6061 seems I have logged one or two of your hides
