In my personal experience (hosting 3 and attending 24) The events are more about socializing than actually finding geocaches. Even when we go geocaching en masse, it's really just an excuse for us all to stay together and have a good time talking it up. I couldn't care less who finds the geocache itself (and lots of times don't even bother to log them)
Our local geoaching group holds at least one campout/event a year down here. We should be scheduling it for April, if anyone is interested. We'd love to have you come.
The state park we usually hold it in has 24 geocaches placed in it. Some are nightime only hunts, some you have to use a boat (on site canoe rentals are available), and we even have a whereigo type cache here.

We should be doing the same again this year. BTW, my geocaching nick is LSUFan
