Question Wdh

I am looking at WDH's and am a little confused because i know so little.

I have a Tundra and a 2027SL. It looks like this one is a good price

http://www.reese-hitches.com/product..._200_lb_,49570

but is 1.200 lbs. is that too big?

This one is 800 lbs. but it is more money.

I had hoped to find a Tundra owner that could point me to what is working for them.

I have a 2720sl and a Jeep Liberty diesel for towing. I use a 600 lb. Robin WDH and it works well for me.
You might shop on Ebay but the price $300 or so seems about right.
There are many discussions about WDH that you can look at.
You can try the search bar or scroll through the towing rigs section.
Make sure your Tundra has a tow package!

I have a 2010 Tundra and I think that yours is a 2010 as well so we should have pretty comparable situations. Here is the WDH that I am using.

The trailer hasn't fallen off yet so I guess it is working.

I got a Draw-Tite 49586 for about US$240 at etrailer.com

It is a Pro Series Trunion Style Weight Distribution Kit (400-800# spring bars) with Shank. 10000# Trailer weight, head is tilt adjustable.

With my Tacoma/Elkmont combo I've got the spring bars cinched up to the max 800# to stop the front of my TV from rising. In general, the Trailmanors seem to have high tongue weights so you can use pretty hefty spring bars.

For no particularly magic reason, my setup consists of a Reese 54917 hitch bar and a 54944 weight-distributing trunnion ballmount with dual-cam bends on the end of the springbars. This setup works well for me. I do not know the present cost.

There are lots of good choices. What I like about my Reese hitch is that the ball mount is a steel casting instead of a welded bar, making it about 25 pounds or so lighter (the less weight on the hitch, the less weight you'll have to distribute). The 1000# is a bit of overkill, but having the spring bars in the middle of the chains means never having to max out the adjustment. The adjustment process is straightforward.

This is an Ebay auction for exactly what I use (1 day to go, $150, no bids yet):

When you buy, you need all of the parts in the picture. You can find the installation instructions online, and they will tell you all about what's involved.

I use a Pro Series with 1200# bars and it sets up well. The chains are in the center of their range and the bars are parellel to the ground.
This one.....

Confused yet? LOL

We used a Reese WDH with 800 lb. bars with our Trailmanor. Someone on this thread had tried the 600 lb. bars, and it didn't give the lift needed. The 1000 or 1200 lb. bars are probably overkill, and will probably make your TV ride really stiff in back. With heavier bars, you are also putting undue stress on the hitch and tires when going through a dip.

With my current trailer (700 lb. tongue weight) I initially got 800 lb. bars but didn't get the lift I wanted. I bought 1200 lb. bars, and my truck rode really stiff, and I didn't like stressing everything when going through dips like entering and exiting gas stations. I went back to the 800 lb. bars after readjusting my hitch, but they seem to be at the maximum for a 700 lb. tongue weight. With the 500 lb. or so tonque weight of a Trailmanor, 800 lb. bars should do great.

I've seen a couple of reports here of 720#.

My Elkmont is 620# and we use the 800# bars cinched to the max.

It seems pretty easy for people to add weight to the tongue as the Trailmanor axle is set so far back.

If your TM has a swing hitch, some products will not fit. The pieces which attach to the TM will fall where the hinge is.
