Default First Trip

We finally purchased our first TM. Had to go all the way to Minnesota to pick it up, so camped on our quick return home driving through South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho before arriving in Washington. We had great weather all the way and was able to enjoy the sites. Just missed all the snow storms which closed I-90 (our route) the day after we were safely parked in our driveway. This site certainly helped us find a great trailer that we're able to pull with no worries. The set up and down becomes quicker each time. Looking forward to many adventures when we have more time to enjoy our new toy.

Congrats on the purchase and 1st camping trip. There is a lot more fun ahead.

You might want to look into a weight distributing hitch for your setup. That Jeep is sagging a little in the back.

Thanks all - we're looking into a WDH and will be getting on installed before our next adventure.

We've been happy with this one: http://www.etrailer.com/Weight-Distr...ite/49586.html

And the price is quite good.

Thanks Brulaz, lots of options. Appreciate the link. BTW - we're also TDI owners (Jetta), a fun little car.

We love our diesel Passat. Used it for years to haul a 2500# tent trailer. Then switched to just a tent, until we got washed out and then froze last year in Colorado. Amazing how far we could travel on one tank of gas (er, diesel). And the torque ...

Driving the Tacoma+Elkmont has been a bit of an adjustment for sure.

Now if only VW, or anybody, put a smaller diesel in a longer-wheelbase pickup. The VW Toureg with the V6 TDI is nice but way too fancy, too expensive, too short a wheelbase and not a pickup.

We've just got our Jetta TDI Wagon last summer. We agree, the VW Toureg is too much, but are hoping in a few years we'll be able to replace our Jeep with a diesel.
