Thumbs up Freedompop

Anybody using Freedompop phones or mobile wifi devices?
http://www.freedompop.com/

If you can stay under the basic limits for minutes, texts and data the service is free!
I don't have a smartphone and really don't want the expense associated with such devices.
However, I do have an Android tablet that would be very handy to use with a mobile wifi
device from Freedompop, as long as I can stay under the 500 MB of internet data per month.
I'm waiting and watching for the price to come down on one of their
4G LTE mobile wifi devices. Got to have LTE! 4G WIMAX is old and soon
to be replaced with LTE.

dab, though we are avid readers I don't consider my Wife and I heavy net users. But IMO, 0.5GB isn't much (for an individual, let alone a couple).
During the months we are traveling away from home for even a week, we must monitor (and use free-open networks, whenever possible and disable unnecessary apps/updates) our usage to remain below 1.25-1.5GB, combined (2.0 GB monthly data plan).
Out west, Verizon seems to have the best coverage though they are clearly NOT a bargain.
Thanks for the information on Freedompop.

Not to rain on the parade, but I would suggest that folks considering this service check the coverage map. It is pretty thin, especially for 4G.

Thumbs up Data usage and coverage concerns.

You both have very good points. At home, we(3 of us) can use 200 GB easy!
And the coverage map really does look sparse to me too. Maybe I'm just trying
to be optomistic. But on the road and camping, I'll have to limit usage to checking
email, looking for the next campground or restaurant, etc. No streaming video or
music. I should be able to keep up with current events, daily news. Those apps don't
use that much data. The DW insists on books she can hold in hand and turn the
page herself.
It's worth a try, in my mind. Just don't want to spend the same as a new smart
phone for a mobile hotspot.
