Default repair for sheared corner latch??

Hi! When we opened our TM we discovered that the tack welded nut that the corner latch (the bars that swing up and have a little pin that snug the top shell close to the bottom shell) is attached to had sheared off. Does anyone know what the materials are and if we can just have someone reweld it? DH figured knowing what the material on the TM at the weld site is would be necessary to make a proper repair weld. Are there any precautions we need to take? This is on the front shell and the propane tanks are below it, maybe a heat proof something over the tanks is a good idea?
Thanks!!

There was an extensive thread on this topic back in November, I think. The Search tool is your friend, and I think the term "latch" should pull it up for you.

Thank you so much for your help, but unfortunately this is not exactly what is broken on our TM....
I searched through the forum last night and read this thread when I was trying to find how to repair our sheared latch. Unfortunately, it is not quite the same situation as we have. In that thread the poster had a sheared bolt that went into the body of the TM. In ours, the bolt goes into a nut that was tack welded to the TM. It sheared off at the weld. The solution for the OP was to drill out the sheared bolt and replace, we just need to know how to properly reweld the nut for the bolt.

Well (looking closely at post #18) it sounded like he did have a welded nut there after all.

His solution was a little different (using JB Weld to adhere a new nut). Looking at my TM it appears like the material is steel nut welded to steel. I suppose an experienced welder would know how to re-weld it. If you need to know for sure about the material a call to the TM factory should help you there.

Good luck with it!

Tim
