Thanks Redtail. We are going to stay a couple days extra at Lake Whitney with plans on leaving Thursday. No since in rushing it, we have til Christmas to get to Los Angeles. Maybe the roads will clear up by Thursday. Nice campground, but too cold to do much outside. Especially for us Floridians. LOL

wow!! That's some memories you will be taking home! Snow and ice, cold outside (and inside?). Turning broadside ...

Just as a suggestion for next year that you might want to consider. DW and I spent the week camping at Saint Augustine, FL. The temperature dropped down to around 70 degrees at night and was in the 80's during the day - nothing unusual but pleasant none-the-less. Did all the tourist things and DW loved the shopping.

I know - just kidding - you can do that at any time, and that kind of stuff is not as exciting as what y'all are experiencing now, but DW and I are too old to have to melt the ice off in order to close the TM these days.

Left Ft Worth this morning, dry roads all the way to Monroeville, Al. We're camping in the motel for this trip. Did check out a new CG to us at Lake Benbrooke. It's called Mustang Point. Drove through yesterday morning and all sites had a sheet of ice on them. Its dry camping but they do have showers which Rocky Creek doesn't. Rocky Creek is closed until further notice according to the ACOE website.

The weather guessers are calling for a rain/sleet mix (60%) tomorrow and snow /sleet mix tomorrow night. Last time we saw anything like that was 26 years ago here in FL.

We are in Sun City, California and 10 degrees warmer than normal. I am not going home to Sun City Center, Florida until it quits snowing, April 1st. LOL

I was told if you move to Florida, and end up north of I-4, you wasted the move. The freeze line in winter most years is about where I-4 crosses the state.

Well scrubjaysnet your part of Florida may be that way but we arrived in St Augustine middle of Jan and was cold. We then left and went to Deltona and it has been cold here too and started raining on Wednesday and has not stopped since and now it's Friday and still raining. We leave here on Monday and head over to the Gulf Coast area of Florida and hope to find some sun and warm weather there. So where is all the sunshine that they clam for Florida. Well at least I can say it's not below zero and snow up to ya....... Hope we see sun soon as my TM will start growing mushrooms soon.

The people that go to Florida in winter tend to go to the far south. And our weather this year so far has been somewhat unusually cold and damp.

Jan and Feb can be our cold time, usually about two or maybe three days of freezing to mid twenty's in the north part of the state. It also tends to be dry with little or no rain when a cold front comes through. 2013 was a bit wetter then normal with some areas way above normal rain amounts. Looking like it may continue into 2014 with the rain we have had so far. We just moved this last year to the Big Bend area which is normally a bit cooler then other parts of the state during the winter. When the fish start moving to deeper water off shore; then its time for us to play snow bird and follow the cool weather north and into higher altitudes.

About three feet of snow on the ground and had about 6 inches this week. Ice cycles hanging from the roof.

Temps this week about -18 to a sweltering 23 on Wed. Bright sunshine today with a high around 19.

Going to pull the TM out of the snow to melt off the ice and snow and put it into a warehouse so as to begin prep for out journey to the southwest and west in two weeks.

Looking for some of that really warm 50 degree heat (ha ha).

Yes, down here he did. You were socked-in with snow clouds, if I recall. You have six more weeks of winter, while we will have an early spring 20 miles east of you.

going across south Carolina this week, it is just amazing looking at the damage from the ice storm, and this was just from what I could see from the hwy, I will take snow any day over the ice.

What drought?

We got 3 inches of rain in the past 24 hours. That is more than we got in the past 12 months. Forecast says we'll get another 2 inches by Sunday, but it would probably take at least ten more storms like this one to put a dent in drought conditions out here. We are thankful for what we're getting.

We are new to the California weather, but been out here for the past couple months. I do not understand the drought conditions. Last week they indicated they were 10 inches below normal in rainfall. We have had 4 inches in the past day and probably a couple more inches today. We are at Menifee. It looks by the numbers, the drought would be over. Does it not soak in the ground. Is it too late for the crops. Is the drought still in effect as they indicate on TV. On TV they indicated this would not even put a dent in the conditions. Would this not help fill up the reservoirs. Just curious. Looks like the northeast is going to catch their lunch from this moisture.
