Why the Edit Button Disappears After Posting

How come the Edit button disappears after however long? I often catch typos on my post after re-reading a thread or when someone quotes my post and I like to correct my stupid mistakes.

Shane - I share your concern. The old forum did allow one to edit all previous posts. It is especially important when a link dead ends.

I agree, I always have to go back and edit my stuff.
