Hi everyone,

We have a trail manor 2014 2229 KB and we just realized that our propane tanks have expired. We are planning on taking a long trip so we are thinking in replacing them.

Does anyone knows where and which propanes in particular we should get?

We would love some recommendations!

Thank you!!

That would be a 2922 TM, and are these tanks horizontal or not? If not, you can swap them at any place that sells propane tanks or those swap stations at gas stations or hardware stores. If horizontal, that requires a bit more effort. Amazon sells some flame kings. If I can suggest add your camper model and specifics in the signature block, it makes giving answers a bit easier and more specific.

Hi! Thank you so much for your response.

They’re horizontal :/ a little more difficult to replace. I’ll post all the details tomorrow

Thank you again!

Another option is to have the tanks recertified. There should be a propane dealer in your area offering that service. In my area there is an AmeriGas dealer that has recertified our tanks.

Dick is right. Re-cert is cheap and easy. It can be done by almost any propane dealer - the guys with the big trucks, or a big tank in the yard, not your local propane exchange place. FWIW, most any propane refill place (such as a propane dealer or Ace Hardware, etc), can refill your tanks for a considerably lower price per gallon than an exchange place.

As Bill said, refills are usually cheaper than exchanges, and essential for the horizontally-mounted tanks. Tractor Supply is also a good place to get your tanks refilled.

A recert usually costs around $10-$25 per tank, and lasts 5 years. They will be a sticker on the tank to reflect that it has been recertified. I have done it many times.

They have the horizontal tanks on Amazon for about $100 each. Mine were missing. I haven't checked with the local propane dealer.

I live in San Diego County. I called all over SD, Riverside, Orange county and LA.
I could not find anyone that would re-certify 5G propane tanks anymore.

I bought 2 new ones off Amazon https://tinyurl.com/fxjys6c4 . About a week later, a friend turned me onto a trick. He said to take your tanks in and ask for new OPD valves and don't mention certification). Supposedly, they will replace the valves for about $30 each (don't quote me on that) and certification is part of that process.

I often make a point to replace my valves when I recertify, since several times I've been caught with one leaking on a full tank, which makes it so you can use that tank. So it's cheap insurance.

Where are yous guys getting tanks certified so cheap?!? When I got mine recertified they were $85 each including new valves and propane fill (even though they were pretty much full when I dropped them off). Had I known that I would have just bought. New tanks.

Here’s the new tanks if you need them…

When they re-valve a tank, of course they have to empty it. The easy way is to simply vent it to the atmosphere, and I know some guys do that. My guy in Phoenix had a setup where he could hang the tank upside down and drain it into a big dedicated holding tank through a dedicated hose. He then gave me a discount on the refill. My lesson? Try to re-cert/re-valve your tanks when they are near empty.

Well of course they have to empty the tank. I never thought they’d just vent it to atmosphere. This was at a major propane supplier, I guess I just assumed they recycled the propane.
