Can anyone find the TrailManor unit in this photo?

Lancaster NY, a suburb of Buffalo got five feet of snow Monday into Tuesday when a persistent lake effect snow wouldn't move or break up. I'm still digging out today.

OMG That is a lot of snow. I can't imagine shoveling 5 feet. That's up to my shoulders and what about the drifts.

I use to live in South Bend IN and we would get a lot of lake snow from lake Michigan. All winter we got it because the lake almost never froze over and we were the right distance from the lake for the air to cool down and dump the snow. If the wind was coming from the NW it would snow normally 2 to 10" a day with once a year or so a 20 to 30". But never what you guys are being hit with.

Did you get hit again last night?

I spent five years in Michgan/Indiana. Part of the reason I've spent the last thirty in Florida.

At least we will get some rain from it. We're so parched in the Big Bend right now the dogs go from one neighbors yard to another they stop at the hose for a drink:D
But I see why my parents moved to Fl from Ma in 1952

Wow! Reminds me of 11 years ago in Denver, we got 3½'. XC skied around the neighborhood. Neighbor boys (20-something, renting) climbed out an upstairs window, and snow-boarded off the garage into a pile we had shoveled.

I'd say it will be gone soon, but I believe snow stays around for a while in the northeast, doesn't it? Farmer's Almanac said this would be a long, snowy winter. Guess you are off to a good start!

I get bummed when I have to scrape ice off of the windshield in the morning before work.

I get even sadder when I scrape the ice off and on the way the windshield fogs up on the outside, and then I try to spray it with the windshield washer, and then it freezes up on the outside and then I have to stop and scrape it off again. :(

We got down to 18.1F last year (right outside the house according to the outdoor probe on the indoor/outdoor thermometer) and that's plenty cold for me.

I now have the newest car, so I get to keep it in the garage. Yay for me! :)

Past history, but we did get 2 ft or more down here ONCE (keyword once) during my lifetime. 1973, it was a freak storm that passed over middle to south GA and north FL into the Jacksonville and panhandle areas.

We are pretty much dug out. The Buffalo Bills and NY Jets game is rescheduled for Monday at the location went from Buffalo to Detroit. The NY Thruway is now open only to essential traffic like commerce and the trucks that were stuck since Tuesday.

The concern now is flooding. Normally it doesn't warm up to 60 degrees in winter but come Sunday that is the forecasted temperature and rain is predicted. So it's like starting out with 6" of water on the ground when the rain comes.

The trailer is close to the house because that is where the concrete pad is.

Brittany Dogs -

As you noted, snow is heavy. And when rain falls, the water can't run off because the snow soaks it up like a sponge, and the whole mass is REALLY REALLY heavy. I hope your TM is closed, so it can withstand all that weight. When it is open, it cannot support all that weight! Check your owners manual, where it says that 1 foot of dry snow is OK, but two feet of snow, or snow with water in it (rain) must be removed, or you risk damage (and it ain't minor!)

It is said than an inch of water equals a foot of snow. 5" of rain in a day is not unusual (During the summer, Daytona Beach got 10" in two days and that wasn't even a [gender confused]icane, last one through here was in '04.) Actually in the last thutty yar I have had more house damage from hail than "tropical cyclones".

BTW anyone remember the winter of '73 ? First energy crisis, people up north started insulating attics that had never been before, and there was a rash of collapsing roofs... (law of unintended consequences).

Before the driveway was started for snowblowing, I roof-raked the trailer getting almost all the snow off. Then 8" of snow fell and that has since melted off with just the temperature rise and the rain that came later. Yes, the unit is closed up.

Right now there is no snow on the roof. We are now bracing for the high wind warnings, with gusts expected at 60 MPH.
