Velcro seams

Hi. I am very interested in a TM and we looked at a new one at a dealer, but my husband is very leery of the Velcro thing. He thinks that type of seam is flimsy, prone to cold winds, water and bugs. Can anyone comment on this? Thanks!

We had the same concerns. Spent from April 2011 to Sept. 2011 camping in the TM with no problems. You have to hold the round dots when pull the flaps down to set up or the dots will break.

Velcro is good enough to hold shoes on your feet and its good enough to hold the flaps down! The flaps are semi rigid and hold themselves down , the Velcro just pretty much seals. I use that area as a shelve all the time.

to the OP, I find the velcro seams to be very solid seal. I have had two TM's in the past 10 years and I have not had any issues with the velcro seals. I also use it as a shelf area for various things. Its a solid as it possibly can be. As many here know, I recently spent two weeks in northern AZ winter camping and I can offer a testimonial that I had no heat loss, cold wind through the velcro seal system. For anyone considering their options with a TM, there will be positives and negatives throughout the selection process. The velcro should not be a concern.

In January 2010 we were in Tucson Arizona when an unexpected cold front hit. Night temperatures got down around 10-15 degrees Farenheit. The velcro sealed flaps were simply not a source of drafts at all.

We also camped at Flagstaff a few days later. Again, no problem from cold air coming through the flaps. The grey water tank froze up, but inside the TM we were fine.

Thanks all!
I needed your testimonials to convince my husband.

We camped in Custer State Park in May of 11. COLD..... got to the single digit range at night and only into the 30's during the day. Our furnace was not working, but we did not have any cold drafts from the velcro seams. We did have a portable ceramic heater that kept us nice and comfy at night. Furnace had a bad mother board that was replaced by the dealer when we got home.
