stupid scammer

Let's see. Very low price. Excellent condition. All appliances. No apparent damage. But "FOR PARTS". My first question would be "What's the VIN?"

Incidentally, not all states issue titles for trailers under a certain weight. I know Maine does not, so in Maine, establishing ownership is more a matter of "Let me see the current validated registration", which shows the owner's name.

In Florida it is "under 500 lbs" and find it difficult to believe that in any state a 3,000 lb trailer would come under that.

OTOH we do ave some strange laws e.g. a tow dolly need neither title nor registation and neither does a car on a dolly.

And as of September 1st registration costs dropped by quite a bit. Some temporary measure expired. Prolly be back soon but for now...

That JAYCO should definitely have a title in GA. A few months ago, I found other suspicious ads on GA Craigslist involving really cheap TraiManors.

The one above doesn't even give a number to "text/call me".

a) can hit reply and send an email
b) didn't say that GA doesn't require a title, just that the "seller" may not have one.

From the Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicles web site at

http://www.maine.gov/sos/bmv/Title/index.htm

Titles are issued for the following types of vehicles:
  • All Motor Vehicles except special mobile equipment
  • Trailers over 3000 lbs (unladen weight)
  • Motorcycles with engines 300 CC and over
The "unladen weight" that they use is the weight published by the manufacturer - in other words, the dry weight. This is also the weight that appears on the registration. In order to register a newly-purchased camper (dealer or private sale), all that is required is a signed Bill of Sale - and it doesn't even have to be notarized!

I went down to the Town Hall once and asked if I could get a title for a trailer under 3000 pounds, even if a title was not required. I got a deer-in-the-headlights look, and the Clerk said she wouldn't have any idea how to proceed. I dropped the matter.

Things are simpler in Maine.

That's what I meant as well. He might not have the title, whether his reason for that is legit or not, or hard as it is to believe on CL, he doesn't actually have either a TM or Jayco to sell you.

Even my 91 Coleman pop-up (1500 lbs) had a title.

I know there have been numerous (understatement) shady ads on CL in these parts involving campers, boats etc. The exact same pictures appearing in various locations with differing and sketchy sounding descriptions or contacts. I even saw a few people posted warning ads after trying to contact and the smell test failed.

Dadgum, I am tempted... Anybody want to buy a 3023 so I can grab it???:D

I would need to see the slide out first though to be sure.

Interesting that the "Contact me" link leads you to area code 406 - Montana.

Bill

Now that you mention it, I think it was Montana when I googled the number for the suspicious one I saw several months ago listed on the Augusta, GA CL.

scammer

I did reply to this. The "seller" claimed to be a female SSgt in the army. She was to be deployed and wanted to unload the camper quick. "she" said the camper was in storage and any shipping would be handled by Ebay Motors in Helena Montana. $ 300.00 for shipping. I even got an email from Ebay motors saying that as soon as the payment was received they would have the unit shipped to me. I would then have 5 days to arrange for a return if I was dis-satisfied. I called Ebay and asked about this unit and as soon as I told them about it I was asked if I was supposed to pay for it with Green Dot cards. When I told them yes they said it is a scam. Never pay for anything on line with Green Dot cards! It sure sounded convincing!! When it sounds too good to be true, it is too good to be true. Craigs list is a local buy only outfit.
