Strong enough for the beach?

My wife and I absolutely love getting off grid down at the beach. We are looking at the 2720 Sport and was wondering if this is durable enough for the constant wind, sand, and salt that the beach has to throw at this. We are currently in a rehab popup camper that we have modified to help in these areas.

Extended sand and salt exposure will shorten the life of any vehicle, and that includes TMs, but short-term, you won't see any adverse effects. Others here have camped at the beach more than us, but we've had no issues the few times we've been.

As to wind -- years ago we camped in the desert where there were 50 mph sustained winds with 70 mph gusts overnight. It was not fun. We were boondocking, and all the tent folks cleared out over night. It was very loud -- think running down the highway with the windows open -- and so us and our dog didn't get much sleep. But the camper didn't have any wear as a result.

If you have had good luck with a pop-up, I can't think of a problem that might afflict a TM, which is sturdier than the canvas pop-out ends. My first thought was for sand blowing into the wheels/ brakes, but your pop-up probably has the same or very similar running gear as a TM, so you should be OK there. A TM has roof vents, not visible in your photo, so you will need to remember to close them if the wind gets strong, to keep the lids from banging around. But I can't think of anything else to beware of. Have fun!

Years ago, most of our camping was at Pt. Mugu State Park (39 weekends and occasional week) which is right on the beach. In fact, at lunar high tides, sea water would flood our camp so we didn't go then. 50-60mph wind was not unusual. The wind damaged our pop-up and the reason that we went to a TM in 2008.

Over time, you will find rust (also on your truck) and it must be attended to promptly or you will have problems. A coat of wax on the side & roof help a lot. The trailer levelers and entry steps may need to be replaced every few years (pain to sand & paint). The trailer tongue and frame can be easily painted with gloss black paint every few years.
