So to all our TM camping friends with cats...

A search for pet restraint laws shows a growing effort to secure pets in vehicles in many states. Some states already have restraint laws for dogs carried in open trucks and cars.

An unsecured pet in an accident is the same as any other unsecured object in your vehicle, and the impact can launch them around the vehicle and kill them or you.

If you have an accident, responders will release your pet from the vehicle, they are not there to help your pet. The pet can be lost, bite the responders, or be killed by other traffic.

We allow our cat access to the rear seat on longer trips. He does not like to be contained. We understand there is an element of risk in doing that.

While riding in the car, she is in her harness with the leash secured to the passenger seat headrest. If she can't look out the window, she gets car sick. When I stop and wait to pick up my son from school, I let her have free roam of the car. She's fine laying across the front dash or rear window.

I'm going to see if they make some sort of doggie car seat if that makes any sense. I take her in the car once a week to try and get her used to car rides. It's getting better...

We feel like we should be arrested for animal abuse . . . Well, maybe I do. Gene, not so much. We try to limit Monster's time in the crate to six hours on travel days. Beyond that, for us, he's a cat with no rear view mirror. When it's over, it's over. I swear that cat taunts me with that.

Yeah, my dogs have to stay in the back seat. When the pardette was gone for a week, they got broke in really well. They have even learned the sound of the door locks (when they are asleep and we are whistling down the road I will pop the lock a few times and they pop up like popcorn!!).

The only thing Chloe (the dacshund) will wake up for is a Taco Bell which she can snip out at a mile. The pardette on one trip would get her a taco without a shell and Chloe has never forgotten the aroma...
