Is there another story on the 2009 TM? Or something else?
Yes, the other story doesn't matter much now, but essentially here is the scenario.
Find the 2009 on Craiglist on Monday, call the owner and talk to him, express my strong interest in purchasing the TM. Tell him I won't be able to come see it until Saturday (today) but I would be willing to put down a deposit or something for him to hold it for us. He tells me "Don't worry, I won't sell it from under you". He tells me that the unit is like brand new, only used a dozen or so times to go to the beach, never used the bathroom, can't ever remember using the stove/oven as they always used a portable BBQ, all appliances work etc... (SOUNDS GREAT!)
Throughout this week been texting him asking questions about the condition of the trailer, if it had a 20gal or 40 gal tank etc. He responds to my questions. I ask him who I should make the cashiers check out to and he says "You should see if you want it first", but gives me his name. I explain to him that if everything checks out that I would want to buy it right there, and would want to have the cashiers check ready.
Friday morning I get a text from him saying there is another buyer there and he wants the unit and that he is going to sell it to him, and says "sorry, I know I said I wouldn't sell it from under you." I respond with disappointment and a bit of anger/frustration. He tells me his wife told him to sell first come and I explain that if that was the case he should have told me, and not told me "I won't sell it from under you".
I'm busy at work so I'm not able to call him and talk to him, but I tell my wife what is going on and she gets mad and tells me to give her his number and she will call him. She then goes on Craigslist and finds his number and calls him anyways. She talks to him and explains that he gave us his word that they would hold it for us, and he continues to say "my wife said...my wife wants..." so my wife asks to speak to his wife. He tells her she is out of town, so my wife asks for her number. He gives my wife, his wife's number and she calls and explains the situation. My wife was able to convince his wife to tell him to hold it for us as we told them as long as everything looked good we were definitely going to buy it.
The rest is outlined above, and he turned out to be just a lying scumball. When asked about how the deep scratches/dents on the inside happened "oh I don't know, I've never noticed that before". When asked about what was in the toilet especially after claiming it had never been used he said "I never used it, my wife never used it, maybe it was one of the kids/grandkids". We then expressed concern about the functionality of the toilet and he said "oh it works"....well if you said you've never used it, how do you know it works? Just excuse after excuse. Not a pleasant experience, but learned a lot and was glad I was able to check it out. The 2006 can only be better than that one!
