Glad to be back to this forum.

I used to be a member from 2005 to 2013 (My user name was "HarveyRV") when I bought a Class A motorhome and sold my trailmanor.

I was the #1 poster for several years but somehow they lost my registration so here I am.

I've probably done every mod ever thought of to my 1998 2720 and my 2005 2720SL. In fact, I think that I invented several of the mods.

Anywho....... I look forward to getting to know you guys again because we just bought a 2009 2720SL and we are selling our (gas-hog) class a motorhome.

Welcome back! I remember your valuable contributions very well!
I remember you as well Bill.

It's been a long time. So long that I couldn't even remember my user name until I had to re-register and was able to "Search" some posts. Oh well, Wavery works. Somehow my old user name doesn't show up on the members list anymore. I asked the site administrator about that and I was told that they have never removed members names from the forum...... I guess he's mistaken. :D

I just looked for "austinado16" and his name has been removed as well.

Welcome back...I'm relatively new here, so I don't remember "the old days" LOL. But amy eager for your input.

Welcome back! I didn't recognize your new user name, but your old name is familiar to all of us old-timers because of all your great contributions.

One question comes up again and again. How to replace the cabinet air conditioner with a household air conditioner. The big question is how to direct the two air flow paths to get the most out of the unit. I remember that you had devised some sheet metal baffles that would keep the hot air flow in the rear of the unit where it belongs, and not allow it to mix with the cool air flow in the front of the unit. If you still have any of your pictures (and text) from that discussion, they would be eagerly received.

Again, welcome back.

Bill

Thanks Bill. Great to be back.... wow, that A/C installation was in 2006 or 2007 (I think). I still have all of the pics and would be happy to update the tutorial if anyone is actually interested anymore.

That A/C mod actually worked better than most roof A/C units. Especially because it drew lass than 1,000W and ran on a 2,000W generator with no strain at all.

Having said all that, I think if I were to add A/C to an older unit today, I would use a 12,000BTU mini-split and put the compressor unit on the trailer tongue. Not sure how I would install the inside air handler but I'll bet I would find a way.

I installed a 12,000BTU 110V mini-split in the (600sq ft) living/dining room of our house and we haven't used our central A/C since. Those things are amazing. This summer we had a power outage on the hottest day of the summer and I ran that mini-split A/C with our Honda i2000eu generator for 24-hours with no issue. I even ran it on propane. I don't know why these RV roof A/C units draw so much power.

Welcome back! There is definitely still interest in that mod. It last came up just a few months ago (see https://www.trailmanorowners.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20671), but I know it has come up a number of times prior to that too. I remember it being pretty innovative.

Whoa… The man, the myth, the LEGEND. You were gone before I came around but a bunch of your posts were incredibly helpful. Glad to have you back.

Thanks for the comments.

I posted some pics of the A/C mod in my album. I'll try to remember the total install.

I wonder if the posts are still in the archives but the pics are gone.

First, welcome back. (Although I already said that in a post)
Second, I would be interested in your RV journey. Why did you come back to a TM after having a class A?

That's actually a very good question.

Most of our camping has involved extensive mountain driving from San Diego CA to the desert area around the Southern end of the Salton Sea (near El Centro area).

Driving that Class A MH though the narrow mountain roads and along low hanging rock cliffs is very stressful and I am finding, that as I age. (I'm 75 now) the stress is becoming over-whelming. I have been diagnosed with some hardening of the heart wall and the Dr says that I need to cut down my stress level.

I bought a Honda Ridgeline, which is a very pleasant 4-wheel drive vehicle to drive and the TrailManor is a "Nothing" to tow so I figured that may be the best solution FOR ME.......

This is what our rig looked like. That's a 20' cargo trailer hanging off the back. We carried our 4-seater RZR in it.:

Obviously a big step down in size, and you can no longer take the RZR. Doesn't that "cut down" on the enjoyment (He says, while thinking the TM is almost the perfect RV)

The downsizing of the RV, we don't mind. We don't need to have big crowds over in our RV anymore. The big thing that my wife will miss is the 22 cu ft double door fridge & freezer in the MH.

As far as getting rid of the RZR, that's a must. I'm just getting too old and arthritic for that thing. We love riding with the group but I am getting more sore after each outing. Besides, we bought a Honda Ridgeline 4x4 to pull the TM so we can still do some light trail riding. We can also take the grandkids in the Ridgeline, although I think they would prefer the RZR.

It's the one thing DW would change about our TM, a bigger fridge that was higher. Oh well, ya can't have everything!:)
