How much is gas?

My wife found this site and it helps in deciding where or if we want to go some place. It also helps determine if we want to take the TM or go by car and stay in motels. If you enter the zip code where you want to go it will tell you what to expect to pay for gas. Also, if you figure out the zip codes along the way you can get a better idea what the trip is going to cost.

It's usually real close, but in the last few days the prices around here have gone up 80¢ - they depend on OPIS (Oil Price Information Service) and not every station is reported every day. See the little asterisked note at the bottom of the list of stations. Some stations around here have been changing their price several times a day! I wonder where all the windfall profits are going - not the gas station operators, I know. I think all the states should do what Hawaii did and set the maximum allowable prices.

Our gas in Sacramento, CA averages about $3.19 a gallon for unleaded. We're camping within our state this year. It's so nice to have a TM that doesn't cost much to tow!!

Ah, gasoline.

Isn't it amazing how the pundits say gas prices aren't affecting American's travel plans? They affect mine all the time. We travel less far and less often than ever before. It was a defining factor in our decision to buy a TM. We made a decision to focus on our deep love of the outdoors for our recreation needs. Although gas is still outrageous, by choosing a TM we save money on all things expensive about vacations, not just gas. No insane air travel, musty hotel rooms, bad restaurant food or crowded theme parks to ruin our good humor.

The variability from place to place is what surprises me. I found gas in Tucson just off I-10 the other day for $2.65. Here in my neighborhood (Scottsdale) is is $2.95. It is almost worth it for me to drive down to Tucson to gas up!
