Hotdogs in a thermos

This is a simple way to take hotdogs with you on the trail or the office.

1.Pour condiments like mustard, ketchup, etc, into small re-sealable containers. Better yet, just save the packages you can pick up at fast food restaurants.

2. Put the buns in a ziplock bag

3. Boil some water in a tea kettle or the microwave.

4. Place the hotdogs in the thermos and pour the hot water over them, making sure to completely submerge the dogs the best you can.

5. Place the lid back on the thermos and seal tight.

6. Put everything into a backpack or lunchbox, and when you are ready to eat....the dogs inside the thermos will be too (they're boiled) and hot. Pour the water out, put it all together, and enjoy.

Love the Kings Hawaiian rolls and bread and I think I have seen the Snuggles in my grocery. I think I found them in my Deli section rather than the bread section.
Gosh, wish I was camping with a hot dog over the fire!!! Sounds good right now!

Thermos cooiing

I did this daily during the 6 months my wife was in the hospital. It results in very tender meat.

preheat wide mouth 2 cup thermos by filling with boiling water.

boil a cup of water. Add meat, then measure out a quarter cup of brown rice and a quarter cup of beans. Add to boiling water and bring back to a boil. Add flavorings. Empty thermos and pour food mix into thermos. Top off with boiling water (an electric kettle makes this easy). Seal and eat 6-8 hours later.

I made the about 6 in the morning and ate at noon, if I recall correctly.

combinations:
Pork, rice, split peas, liquid smoke, ham soup base
Beef, rice, pinto beans, salsa, beef soup base
chicken, rice, lentils, chicken soup base.

maybe a splash of vinegar? Oh, and some of the frozen seasoning mix from the store, peppers and onions mixed. Sometimes I used the stir fry style for larger chunks and I think I might have put some various mixed frozen vegetables in the stew too, corn for the beef....

We did this several years ago at Old Faithful. As we enjoyed our warm food, a family (husband/wife/several children) drove up in a VW van and asked to share our table.

They opened up a large can of Chefboyardee Spaghetti-Os and served everone straight from the can!
