Grey water tank

Greetings all,
I've read and purchased some of the items needed to fix a crack in the grey water tank.
Fixed it a few years ago and strapped the tank but not to the point the video that has been posted in our of the threads shows. Planning on going the whole nine yards this time as I should have the availability of using our son's garage (business) which gives me more flexibility.
The question I do have is this: DOES ANYONE KNOW IF IT IS POSSIBLE TO CHANGE OUT THE GREY WATER TANK FOR A NEW ONE. I can get hold of a brand new tank but the TM owner said it was impossible for him to get the old tank off the TM.
Suggestions, please.

John

I had the grey water tank professionally welded by Phillips Plastics about 8 years ago. They also beefed up portions of the tank that seemed susceptible to stresses. When I got our 07 2720SL home I applied multiple layers of black ABS over the treated areas using a dobber to add even more strength. I did this over the course of several days to allow each layer to cure. It's still rock solid and should survive the most brutal roads for years to come.

It's not "impossible" to replace the grey tank but it's a big (expensive) job.

The grey tank plumbing joints are all glued during construction of the trailer. That means that the bath tub may have to be replaced as part of the repair.

It would entail cutting the old grey tank to pieces and carefully removing the joint that attaches the grey tank to the bottom of the bathtub. I've never heard of anyone that has successfully done that.

Maybe Shane knows if it can be done. Good luck.

These abs pellets worked well. Not all do.

Actually, I had our grey tank replaced in 2016 by MCD RV. The tub drain was cut leaving just enough for the new tank to be attached using a rubberized connector with pipe clamps. Since the drain system is not under any pressure that connector has never leaked. It was a bit expensive but worth it. Several attempts to patch the initial leak failed. The OEM tank was formed then several indents were added using a hot instrument. That left a pointed, V-shaped indent which eventually failed. The replacement tank had grooves that were formed as the tank was made. The indents were rounded rather than pointed.

Glad to hear of someone that has had it done. :)

The tricky part is successfully removing the tank fitting that joins to the tub fitting without damaging the tub fitting. I would think that the rubber coupling would be attached to the new tank with clamps (as stated) then the coupling could just be pushed on to the old tub fitting.

They make a special reamer for just such a job.

I've always been told you have to remove the tub to replace the gray tank and to remove the tub is to destroy the tub.

My gray tank is leaking again in the grooves on the bottom of the tank when the tank begins to swell. I thought I would harvest a tank from one of the scrap campers. Ripped the tub out (it was already junk) and was not real encouraged by what I saw. The 2002 model I was stripping had two glued together inlets; one from the tub and one from the pipe that ran inside the bathroom floor for the sinks. It made decide to try and patch my tank again and really actually brace it so the belly doesn't swell and cause leaks.
