im looking to purchase both a TM & TV TM 17 or 19ft thinking 2018 of grand cherokee rated at 68 or 7200 would like to find an alternate to /cherokee due to reliability

any input

I had 2011, 2014 and 2017 Grand Cherokees all with the 5.7L that we towed our TM with and never had reliability issues. They all towed like a dream too with the factory tow pkg. Couldn't even tell that we were towing a loaded trailer even going up curvy mountain roads.

As a first thought, 6800-7200 pounds of towing capacity is more than you need, especially for one of the smaller TMs. We pulled our earlier 2720s with a 2002 Ford Explorer, followed by a 2006 Explorer, both with 4.6L V-8s, both with factory tow packages, and both rated about 6200-6400 pounds, as I recall. As always (though no one ever mentions it), the number that is right for you depends to a large extent on where you plan to tow. We went up to 10K-11K feet, all over the American and Canadian Rockies and the Sierras, without difficulty. Pulling power as well as stopping power were more than adequate, even with the engine starved for oxygen at high altitude. If you plan to stay lower, you might be happy with a 5000-pound rated tow vehicle - many of our members are.

For some reason, Consumer Reports always rates Jeep low on reliability. Perhaps it is because some owners actually use them off-road, which is hard on a vehicle. My 2005 Wrangler with 70K miles has been near-perfect, though I don't take it off-road.
