Gas leak caused by screw from fire ext.

We had a gas smell in the cabinet under the stove and after searching without sucess we went to local LP dealer and they "sniffed" it out. The line going up to the stove was worn thin by two years of contact with the screw that holds the fire extinguisher frame on the outside of the cabinet. Could have been moved out a quarter inch and solved the problem but was in contact. Good idea to pull the copper tube away.

Thanks Bruce. It's great that we can all learn from each other's situation to prevent our own problems...I will be checking mine soon.

Checked the location of our gas line today . . . sure is close to those protruding screws! I will be adding small plastic caps (or heat sensitive shrink wrap) to prevent any problems in the future. Right now there is sufficient room between the gas line and the screw tips.

Modified gas piping

While we had our unit at the dealer for some work we had him put in 2 90 degree bends in the gas line. Photo below. Next is to remove the Fire Extinguisher holder and replace it with a hinged door with the Fire Extinguisher strapped to the inside of the door.
