Fold out weather seals

Talking to a dealer who deosn't sell Trailmanors. He said traveling on dirt roads they really suck in dirt bad and while parked didn't seal very well to keep out dirt and wind. I'm looking at a 2007 2720SL in new condition good shape ( I haven't actually seen it yet as it's 200 miles away) Has anyone else had any type of problems with the weather seal ? THANKS

Haven't heard any issues with dirt invasion under normal use. However, I would think that towing on a dirt road could be a real issue.

We found that storing our patio mat inside our TM causes a lot of dust & dirt. However, that would happen in any camper. We now put the patio mat in the back of our pick-up and have no issues with dirt and our TM is 12 years old.

Do you plan on towing on dirt roads?

Living in WY there's always dirt roads. Some of my favorite campgrounds are 5 to 15 miles off the paved hwy on dirt roads. I don't like KOA"S etc. Just have to take it easy going in.

I hope someone that has experience with that chimes in.......as far as I am concerned, I don't think that I would feel real good about towing the TM 5 miles on a dirt road. That sounds like a job for a well sealed travel trailer. Even then, I would expect some dirt invasion.

There is more to be concerned about than dirt. I think that a lot of towing on rough roads may take it's toll on the latching mechanisms as well.

I've had a 76 Champion motorhome for 30 years. I've had to fix some minor things. Loose screws,etc but nothing major. Just have to keep good maintance on the equipment. Any trouble with water comming in on the roof seals ?

The beds on my 3023 don't get dusty because the shell is snug against them, but the rest of the trailer does get dusty when going down a dirt road. For me it's not a big deal to clean that stuff up when I arrive. A wipe down and cleaning of the counters and sinks etc. and a cordless vacuum on the floors and furniture just takes a few minutes.

Back in '07 I was a campground host for the USFS on the Greys River in western WY. To get to the CG, I had to tow the TM 14 miles (each way) on a dirt road. I found about the same amount of dust in the TM as I found in my truck.

The key is to take it nice and slow. Having grown up along a dirt road, I learned a long time ago that speed greatly increases the amount of dust that is kicked up.

In my experience, when driving on dirt roads such that a cloud of dust follows the TM, most of the dust that makes its may into the TM is primarily limited to the inside walls of the top shells. The exception is the front wall of the front shell -- that seems to escape the dirt.

10 minutes of wiping it down with a damp rag takes care of it, and then it's on to camping.

I have never found any appreciable dust anywhere else.

I didn't have much experience with dusty roads, but I will answer the parked question. We had very little problem with air infiltration during some extremely windy camping trips with the fold out seals. We could sometimes feel a small draft at the corner seals in the back bed. If we camped in cold weather, we would stuff that area with pipe insulation cut to length, and use swim noodles in front shell gaps.....those worked great.

Never. I don't think I have ever read about a problem with roof seals leaking on this forum.

I don't get any more dust in the trailer than in the truck towing offroad. For towing on wash board roads I recommend dropping all tire pressure in half. Air them back up for high speed pavement so they don't overheat. I've camped in wind storms on sand dunes where the wind would blow out from under the wheels an the trailer would creak as it sank. No sand inside except what we tracked in on our feet.

Question: are these "fold out weather shields" the white thing on the side in the attached first picture?
Are there supposed to be on the rear also?
Also, as the second photo shows, there aren't any on the rear bed in my 3023, are they supposed to be there?

I'm not too sure you were talking to the best source of info about the TM. All trailers leak dust on dirt roads. The TM keeps out dirt and wind just fine when parked. I find the seals work remarkably well.

Yours looks just like ours. The rear bed doesn't have the "fold down seals". The front bed does. The outer edge of the front bed seals should be folded down between the mattress and the outside edge that contains the mattress & not left out over the mattress. There should be velcro there to attach it to.

I have no idea what a "fold out weather shield" is. This comes under the HUH? category.
