Flush-mount door handle

When I went to the RV show last winter, I saw the new models of TM using flush-mount door handles. Seems like they would be easier to open with a finger (when my hands are full), so I decided to retro-fit my 2417 with one. Glad I did!

Had to remove the old deadbolt, and the old round handle. Now, the flush-mounts are rectangular bodies, so I had to do some cutting. Used a power jigsaw, and had no issues.

Also had to ream-out the latch mechanism area, but that was not an issue, either. I was going to take pictures along the way, but got too into it, and forgot. Although I am ADD, sometimes I am too focused on getting a project completed.

Where the deadbolt was, I put in a standard hole cover, purchased at Home Depot in the handle hardware area. Had to cut off some of the bottom of the circle on both inside and outside, but that was no problem.

Sealed with white silicone around the outside, so I should have no leaks.

I love this, very nice job. I am going to be installing one of these myself. If you get a chance, can you post how you did the jamb where the latch catches. I want to have all my plans in place when I cut into my door lol.

That looks great! I also find the knob and deadbolt set-up something of a pain. Looks like a nice upgrade project for the summer!

Good job and good post!

I will also be doing this mod in the near future! :)
