Everything Dogs and Cats

We also have a Vizsla--well actually, we have two. We used to tent camp, but our babies just did not accept the tent as home. Once it started getting dark, they would want to go into the car...then out of the car because we weren't inside...then back in the car....back out....
We now have a TM and have gone on our first camping trip. The dogs LOVE the camper! I would attach a photo, but can't figure out how to do that.

Two of the dogs and I were included in a Quail Forever article.

mecicon, before I vote for your dog, let me know he is worthy of my vote. ;-)

What do you hunt over him? (Woodcock? Quail?)
Does he hunt close to you, or range beyond shooting range?
Does he respond to your commands?
Does he get antsy as soon as you hit the gravel roads in your hunting area?
Does he accept the other hunters in your group (dogs or people)?

I love to hunt, and love dogs. I have hunted with some that I could not cast a vote for a "good dog", even though they are lovable out of the field. Let us know (s)he is worthy, and I will be happy to vote. A picture would also help. I don't want to be voting for some ugly, mangy dog. :D

Does he hunt close to you, or range beyond shooting range? If he hunted out of range I would leave him at home (I have three others)
Does he respond to your commands? Yes
Does he get antsy as soon as you hit the gravel roads in your hunting area? Yes, as soon as I turn off the main road
Does he accept the other hunters in your group (dogs or people)? Yes

Curious George "RIO" won the Vizsla Nationals in '05 when he was 13 months old, he has traveled far and wide. He is "steady to wing and shot" and retrieves both stuffed toys and fallen game. Rio has won in the show ring and in all-breed field trials.

In two weeks he will be making yet another trip to SoDak for ringnecks, prairie chickens and possibly geese (If I can wake up at 3:30 AM).

The fourth picture is the one in the contest.

Mark, you've got some good looking dogs there. The entry photo looks like a real contender. I'll cast a vote your way. Good luck.

Looks like you are getting lots of votes! I voted, and will try to vote a few more times.

Nice looking dogs! Good luck in SD. I have to wait another 5 weeks until Colorado's season opens.

Catz

So I was wondering...does anyone out there take their cat with them when they go traveling? I have questions about this and woul love to take our kitty with us next time we go.
TC

We had a big old tomcat that traveled with us for years. He passed on several years ago. He was kind of nervous at first, but after he figured out what was going on, he was a great traveler. If you want to PM your questions to me, I'll relate my experiences. Yes, he walked on a leash.

Bill

An homage to "Cosmopolitan" aka "Carrie Bradshaw".

The only female I've had (as a pet) passed this morning in her sleep. She did not eat yesterday I told Dana that we would have to take her to the vet and that would be her final ride. She was diagnosed with cancer in June 2015 and we knew the end was near.

She hunted Quail, Ruffed Grouse, Woodcock, Prairie Chicken, Sharptail and Pheasant. She went to the Super Bowl (SD) 4 times, she also hunted FL, NH, WI and of course GA. She received her AKC Best In Breed in short order and ran AKC Field Trials in dozens of other states. She retired from hunting after 2013-14 season and kept her mom company while I was away.

RIP

Thomas, yes, we take out cat along on all of our camping trips. When we have other people around, we lock the door when we go outside, so no one else inadvertently opens the door and lets the cat out.

Also take him outside on a leash. Don't need him to run off out of fright, and not be able to find him.

His worst experience camping was the hail storm near Mt. Rushmore. Midnight, huge racket. He started running/jumping all over the trailer. I got up, and had to catch him in mid-air. He shook terribly. Calmed him a bit, then took him to bed. He stayed between us the rest of the night.

Take your cat. Makes the trips a bit more enjoyable!
