Dogs not allowed on CA State Park Trails ?

I'll weigh in on this one. I don't mind sharing a trail with a well trained dog. We've had dogs all our married life, until recently. We've trained, shown, and done obedience trials with our dogs. Even taught one to square dance. There's only one kind of dog to have outside the home, in my not very humble opinion. That's one that has been trained. One that comes when called and follows basic commands - sit, stay, heel, etc. And especially one that is well socialized with other dogs. The rest should stay at home. They are a risk to others, no matter their size. It isn't hard to train a dog but does take time and consistency - the least owners can do if they love their animals.

Yeah, I do have strong opinions on this.

Dogs on trails

It's bogus that animals will smell the scent of dogs and will avoid that area. I live in a rural area where dogs are all over the place, including my dog. The deer, wild turkeys, foxes and squirrels keep coming. The excuses that National Parks and California parks use for not allowing dogs is nothing but misinformation (disinformation) created by some beaurocrat who doesn't know what he is talking about.

They don't allow dogs on trails is to prevent injury of either animal. I love dogs, and have had several, but I always kept mine on a leash or tethered at my camp site. Unfortunately others don't feel their animals need to be on a leash or under physical control.
They're animals, if they feel threatened or their human is threatened, they can be dangerous. I've had the most docile dog get vicious, cause someone came at me. I am unable to read peoples minds and definitely not an animals mind. Is it really that much of a burden to keep a dog off a trail?

Kidkraz said “Is it really that much of a burden to keep a dog off a trail?”

But my dog is a Canine American and he has RIGHTS! Saying he can’t go on a federal or state funded trail is discrimination! Because ‘MURICA!

(yes this is purely sarcasm and meant for laughs)
