Cracked Rim

I switched to 15" tires and rims a couple years ago. We just finished a 2000 mile trip to the Jubilee and back. On our way back I discovered one of tires had gone flat overnight. I took the tire to a tire store and the service man discovered a crack on the inside of the rim was the problem. There was no leak in the tire. We completed the trip with our spare. Just wondering if anyone has had this problem. The rims and tires were purchased at a Goodyear tire center.

What pressure were your tires inflated to? Some rims are rated for less then the inflation pressure of modern tires.

Were the rim width 5.5" or 6" ? I have seen 5.5" that were rated much lower than 6".

I don't suppose you still have the failed rim. Important information, like load and pressure ratings, are often stamped on the inside of the rim where you can't see them unless you remove the tire.

You were brave to continue the trip with no spare. I never had the guts to do that.

The rim is at the tire store. He is looking for a replacement, but i am not so sure i want the rim replaced without knowing if it meet the required specs. Padgett has pointed out that is should be 15" x 6" wide. This is what Goodyear recommends . I will try to find out what the dimension of the rims he sold me are. I am not sure it was brave to travel without a spare. Maybe stupid is more like it.

If this is a Goodyear rim, I'd reach out to them letting them know of your issue. It may not help you, but letting the manufacturer know you had a failure helps them and could help other folks if this was a bad batch of rims.
