Members confirm that the 2007 2027SL typically uses 10" x 2.25" brake drums on a 3,500-pound axle, with both Dexter and Lippert as common axle manufacturers. Experienced RVers strongly recommend replacing the entire brake assembly rather than individual components, citing ease of installation and reliability. The process involves removing four bolts, disconnecting brake wires, and swapping the old unit for a pre-assembled replacement, which can be sourced from reputable sites like eTrailer... More...

Does anyone know the size of the brake drum on a 2007 2027SL I would like to replace drums and races or entire assembly
Thanks

Let me suggest that you don't want to deal with the individual components of the running gear - brake shoes, brake drums, bearings, all the assorted other parts, and the work needed to install them all and adjust them all. Instead, you can buy a complete pre-assembled unit containing all of it. You jack up your TM, take off the wheel, disconnect the brake wires, remove 4 bolts, and the entire old assembly drops off. Take the new assembly out of the box, bolt it on, connect the electric brake wires, and you are done. I was amazed at how easy it is.

You need to know the manufacturer of your axle - it will be either Lippert or Dexter - and the axle weight rating (probably 3500 pounds for a 2720, or possibly 5200 pounds for newer TMs), plus the number of wheel lugs (5 on a 3500-pound axle), plus the size of the brakes (10-inch on a 2720). Go to a RV/trailer web site (there are many, but eTrailer.com is a good start). Look through their trailer brakes section, choose manual or automatic adjustment, write the check, and wait for the UPS truck to pull into your driveway.

This is what I've used in the past. Part numbers are off of Easternmarine.com.

5331006 10" x 2-1/4" Electric Brake Assy. - Right Hand / 3.5k
5331005 10" x 2-1/4" Electric Brake Assy. - Left Hand / 3.5k
1590022 Timken® 1-1/16" Bearing Cup & Cone Set
1590025 Timken® 1-3/8" Bearing Cup & Cone Set
5257018 1" ID Round - TANG Washer
5331097 DEXTER 1.72" ID Grease Seal #010-019-00 (Dexter part #)

I always carry an extra pair of seals, bearings, and Tang washers with me in case roadside repairs are necessary at 10pm Sunday night.

But the last time I replaced them, I put on the Nev-R-Adjust assemblies. I THINK these were it, but please verify (part numbers off etrailer.com):

23-469 10" Nev-R-Adjust Electric Brake Assembly for 3.5K Axles - right hand
23-468 10" Nev-R-Adjust Electric Brake Assembly for 3.5K Axles - left hand

As Bill mentioned, it is FAR easier to just replace the entire assembly. And the drums can't be turned, since the magnet wears the face of the drum, so they have to be replaced too. And while the Dexter drums include Dexter bearings and races, in the past I've found them to be cheap Chinese garbage, and so I push them out and install USA-made Timken bearings (as referenced above).

Good info, Dave. I've never visited EasternMarine, but it looks like they have a good selection of good stuff. It appears they offer some off-brand stuff. Buyer's choice, of course, but I would not hesitate to pay more and get the real thing.

There is some really good info, much of it yours, Dave, in this older thread
. . and this one

BTW, the proper brake size is indeed 10x2 1/4, not 10x1 1/2. And the Nev-R-Adjust units seem to come in 3500-pound and 4400-pouind capacity. My notes show that the units coded -468 and -469 were right for my TM. There is also a Dexter unit for pre-2009 trailers - as I recall, the spacing of the 4 attachment bolts changed slightly. This needs to be straightened out before buying.

Thank you gentlemen. So 3500 10by 2.25. I don’t mind changing whole assembly just need the correct size. I will reuse bearings as i lubricated them frequently and not a large amount of miles. Thank you so much for responding. I’ll let you know correct part numbers

No you can literally get a complete assembly. Unbolt, disconnect the brake wires, slide everything off including the drum and bearings. Slide the new one on, tighten the bolts, reconnect wires, done and done.
