Construction on the TM

I have been reading a lot on wood rot on the older TM models. I have a 2006, 2720 SL and wondering if things have been changed thru the years. I don’t even know if I have any wood in the construction of the trailer like the other people post. Is their anyway to fine out what is inside? I am still learning things. I am sure many changes have been made since 1983. Thanks if you respond.

Dave:

Yes they have changed a lot over the years. They are now using more metal and are using "plastic wood" instead of actual wood. I do not know when that changed.

You might find what you are looking for at this link:

It has captured many of the TM factory brochures since 1998.

Perhaps the best way is to call the service department at TM and ask about the construction of your particular model, year and serial number.

Good luck,

Jerry

The floor should be the only place that wood is used in the '06 model construction. 2x4 perimeter boards and 1/16" plywood covered by aluminum on top of the foam. There is a rumor that some wood framing is used around and in the exterior door.

I can confirm there is some wood framing in/around the door.

I lost the little plastic piece that holds the top half of the door closed when folded down causing the door to swing open while driving down the road. The same piece would sometimes lock us in the TM after someone closed the door.

I decided to replace with another deadbolt lock keyed to match the existing locks. Drilling into the door I hit some wood and drilling into the jamb I hit some wood.

There is also some wood in the wall where the optional cabinets mount.

I have a 2009.
