A member asked whether TrailManor sells parts directly to owners or if parts must be ordered through a dealer, since the nearby dealer no longer sells TrailManors and has no parts in stock. Another member explained that common components made by outside suppliers, such as appliance or lighting parts, are usually best sourced from the original manufacturer or RV parts retailers, while TrailManor-specific items like bag seals, wall panels, cabinetry, decals, and similar factory parts may be...

Does TrailManor sell parts directly to owners or do I have to go through a dealer? The dealer near me doesn't sell TrailManors anymore and while they say they can order parts they have nothing in stock.

There are two kinds of parts. The first is piece-parts that are not unique to TMs. These are parts for the things that Trailmanor doesn't make, but simply buys and installs. For example, TM buys truck-loads of air conditioners from Dometic or whoever, and installs them, but they have no involvement with the piece-parts that go into making an air conditioner, so they don't stock or sell those parts. You can get a Dometic grille from Dometic, for example, or sometimes an RV parts place - but not from TM.

The second is parts that are specific to Trailmanor, made by the Trailmanor factory as part of manufacturing the trailer, and used in no other RV. Think pre-cut wall panels, bag seals, interior cabinetry, exterior decals, and so forth - things that no other RV uses. There are surprisingly few of these items, but TM may be able to supply them to you.

There is sometimes a gray area between the two. For example, if you back into a tree and break a tail-light, you may be able to get a replacement from TM, if they are still using the same tail-light. They would simply pull one out of production stock for you. This is generally not a good solution, because they may no longer be using the same part and have no stock of the earlier one, and also because it will always be cheaper for you to buy it from any of the retail RV parts places like eTrailer.com or Dyersonline.com.

Trailmanor.com has an on-line parts catalog you could check.

Thanks Bill, I will have to get the parts catalog since I want to replace one of the bag seals that goes across the roof between the front and rear sections. The one I currently have is still sealing but shows some wear and fraying of the outer fabric. I have heard that TrailManor has new ownership. Do you know if that is true?

Although the TrailManor company has had 3 owners since it was formed in 1983, the present owner bought the company in 2017, established a new factory in South Dakota, and expanded it and improved the design and the production methods - still under the TrailManor name. Within the past couple years, they outgrew their initial factory, and built a new South Dakota factory from scratch just a few miles from their first factory. Perhaps this is what you have heard. But ownership has not changed since 2017.

If interested, a quick Google search on "Trailmanor history" will bring up the full story. It has been a traditional American success story.

Bill:

Thanks, just goes to show that if you build a good product that people want to buy then you can succeed in any economy. The American dream realized.
