Built in step for bed

Yoda & larrylifelines designs

I know it's an old thread but Thanks to both of you for your designs. :D
I just picked up my TM a few weeks ago & I also have 2 dogs that are used to the bed at night, at home and in the old trailer. Both are old and short! They are also used to using an old ottoman to get into the bed at home. But that's not quite high enough for them to get into this one!

I have picked up a used telescoping ramp (didn't cost much and could be helpful in the truck) that might be workable for them (though the old black dog is VERY resistant to change - novelty is not high on her list!) and the narrower width might put them both off. I can always re-sell it if it doesn't work in the truck.

I think they would be more comfortable with the step-up type of arrangement they are accustomed to, and your designs are exactly the kind of thing I was looking for, and chewing around in my mind. They go the full width of the "hallway" space, so it's safe and doesn't give them a "go around it" option (or over it, which is my biggest concern when they disembark), and the depth of the treads are nice and deep - really important for dogs, especially when they are going back down.

Workable for both the pups and my short a** to get into a bed that was MUCH taller than I expected it to be.

Saw a design online for that I adapted for our 2720. Not easy to describe but the attached has a picture - mod #8. The steps are attached to the cabinet door under the bed and are about 1" thick when folded. These are easy to open and close.

Hi Joe,

I saw your folding stairs mod in the TM form. They are brilliant !

Would you mind sharing the plans for the folding stairs ?

Many thanks,

Graham

Graham,
We're currently traveling, when I get home I'll try to dig up the design and include some photos. These are very easy to attach and don't reduce the storage capacity of the under-bed cabinet. The steps have performed extremely well and are much easier than anything else we used before. Easy and quick to open and close.
Safe Travels,
Joe

Here is what we use. It's on Amazon. It has 2 steps, folds flat for storage underneath the bed, and is very sturdy.

I’ve been trying to figure out how to incorporate this into the back bed area. Making them slide out is a bit above my pay grade but maybe a panel that swings out in place of the under-bed storage door?

That is the same concept I used to build ours. Ours don't slide out - they are attached to the back of the cabinet door. Made of 1/2" luan and reinforced with 16 gauge steel. The door is supported with two spring loaded door stops. The attached .pdf has the dimensions and some pics. These steps work great.
Safe Travels,
Joe
