Members are seeking the ideal material to restore or replace bag seals, referencing Trailmanor’s original use of “rip-proof nylon.” Initial research focused on 70D 1.9 oz ripstop nylon, but further investigation led to the conclusion that an Oxford weave with a full PVC coat—specifically 14 oz vinyl-coated polyester—matches the original seal’s weight and durability. Several sources for this material were shared, and one member confirmed a successful match in weight, thickness, and texture... More...

Hey there. Trying to find some material locally to restore/repair/replace bag seals.

According to Trailmanor"

"Seals are constructed of rip-proof nylon"

I've found some online options for rip-stop nylon fabric. Some are coated/water proof. I'm eyeing right now 70D with 1.9 oz weight.

There was one thread where someone found fabric at a local RV shop and it looked great, but no brand or specifications.

Does something like this look good? Other current links or recommendations?

I've run into some good information after a lot of search attempts. Found a site that talks about DIY cloth boat making. It discussed weaves and coatings and strengths.

I now believe the cloth should be/is an Oxford weave with full PVC coat (not a PU coated rip-stop). I don't know the weight so I'm hoping to figure that out.

Trialmanor responded to me about the cost of their replacement kits ($40 fabric only per section , $75 per section of full kits). But they didn't help with defining the type of material. 😁

Here's an example I'm looking into.

After pulling all the staples from an existing bag seal I weighed a section and calculated the weight to be 14oz. So, looking for Oxford weave double-sided PVC coat at 14oz.

Looks like a popular product for Tarp making.

Our 14oz vinyl coated polyester fabric comes by the roll or yard. It is waterproof and resistant to mildew, UV, tearing and abrasion. It is ideal on your farm or for trucking, construction, roofing, and industrial applications. Seven different colors available including white, royal blue, black, yellow, gray, red, and green.

14 oz Vinyl Coated Polyester PVC

Material: 100% PVC Coated Polyester Scrim
Fabric Weight: 14 oz Per Square Yard
Fabric Width: 61" Wide
Thickness: 16 Mil
Color: Red, White, Royal Blue, Black, Yellow, Gray, Green
Finish: UV and Mildew Resistant
Low Temperature: -40 degrees F
High Temperature: 160 degrees F

It's a dead ringer! Same weight, thickness, pattern/texture, color.

I got 4 yards (ordered by foot, so 12 feet).

The bag seals are made from a material called "Hypalon", which is often used in the making of inflatable boats. Compared to PVC, it has superior resistance to UV rays, chemicals, and abrasion.

Is it possible that's a change that's occurred from 1995 to some year in the future? This material I got is a dead ringer. I would expect the Hypalon to have a higher weight.

Anything is possible, but when I asked about my 2007 unit maybe 10 years ago, that's what I was told it was. It's even possible they just called it Hypalon, which is a brand name owned by DuPont, when in fact it was some generic material.
