Accessing spare tire

Hello fellow TM owners,
I need to access my spare tire under my TM but how do I release it?

Pull the 2 pins up after pulling the cotter pins out of the bottom , raise the bar and slightly pull toward you. It slides on a tube from underneath.

Ha! Just as a note - it sounds easy when Jimmy and Rose describe it. It may not be, especially if you have crammed a 15-inch tire into the mounting designed for a 14-inch tire. Having done it many times, I can say that after removing the clips and pins, I end up sitting on the ground facing the tire, with my legs splayed to the left and right of the rack. Lean forward, grab the black cross bar, and pull strongly backward. In my experience the rack will suddenly move toward you, and drop like a rock to the ground. When it does, it is best not to have any body parts in the way.

After it drops, you can stand up and pull the rack out a few feet so you can release the tire. When you put a tire back onto the rack, put it on with the valve stem facing down so the retainers will engage. It is also a good idea to orient the tire so the valve stem is on the side facing you, to make your next pre-trip pressure check, and any needed airing up, easy without pulling out the rack.

You are so right Bill, we’ve had to do it the way you describe also. I should’ve gone into more detail. We’ve even had our tire rack extended as you can see in the picture so we could get the tire to fit easier. Works well now.

Yup, I had to do the same sad task when I changed from 14" to 15" tires. Glad to know I wasn't alone. I just wasn't smart enough to figure out how to do it without getting a welder to help me.

Loads of fun too, trying to get the spare out while stranded on the side of a busy interstate highway. Such as I-75 between Atlanta and Florida. Don't ask me how I know that.
