We are going to look at a 1987 Trail Manor, needs battery ,probably
tires, and fridge doesnt work. Has some wood rot in a wall. The ac
works and all water functions and heat work as well as floor structure
and subframe is good. Is $2000 a good buy , I figure we would have
$3200 in it when finished and it would be perfect. Also the 1987 22,
is the 22 the length open or closed. Anything else to look for? Bill

As far as I know, there is no wood IN the walls. The wood is in the framework under the walls; the walls are made of aluminum clad foam. The wood replacement has/can been done, but it is a lot of work. When you are finished, you still have an old trailer with limited resale value.

Personally, Id look for a newer model, in better shape, for about the same price or a little more.

Fix Up TM

Replacing the battery would be a minor issue. Tires on these trailers don't last long. I just bought two new ones a few weeks ago - based on my experience, you should allot about $115/tire to replace.

I too, would be most leery of the rotten wood. If it's bad in one spot, it might also be wet in other walls as well. Just getting at the bad spots, making the repairs, then trying to make the repaired wall look decent, might be challenging to say the least.

Those 2 or 3 way refigerators are small, but not inexpensive. Being 20 years old, it's my guess that you'd wind up replacing it .

Just my opinion, but this sounds like the kind of project that would seem like fun at first, but it could "spiral downward" pretty quickly and you'd be sick of seeing the thing in your driveway. ;)

There's a 3023, 1998(?) for $7000 in the TMs for sale section. Only $1800 more than what you think you're going to spend, and it's 11 years younger.
