If you have a front bed, you'd have to take off the velcro flaps and the latches, and then slide the bed in. You'd then have the tongue right underneath to step down on.

That would work well to solve the problem of a broken door knob preventing you from opening the door. Or if someone on the outside flipped the outdoor latch on the top half of the door.
In a fire, exit by the quickest means possible. For a tiny fire, I would probably risk going past it and out the door. For a big fire, that you can not go past, then opening the bunks may be viable.
