Default Senior moments

We should have a new topic, the "Idiot's Roost", for posts related to the ownership or operation of TMs - I'd nominate myself as a charter member. Enroute to Nashville, Indiana last Friday DW noticed that the cover on the ceiling fan was flapping up and down. Since it wasn't raining and it is hinged at the front, I figured I'd deal with it on arrival. After setting up we saw that the elevation knob was missing and spent 15 minutes searching inside the TM for it without success. I mentioned this to another TM owner at the rally, an older gentleman, who told me to check the back roof. I proceeded to patiently explain that the knob could only have fallen inside the TM when I had my "duh" moment. Sure enough, the knob and screw were on the roof and I found the bushing that fits inside the knob in the gravel alongside. Try to top this for a senior moment! - camp2canoe

The only things that come to mind are the number of times I have fully closed the TM and discovered the steps were still extended.

Next to that is jamming the rear latches under the shell and not noticing until I have latched the front shell.

I frequently forget to pull the lever to empty the toilet before closing down.

But, these are more of a senior moment (forgetfulness) rather than a duh moment (overlooking the obvious).

I have a check list, but I forget to use it.

Now THAT is classic.

Like Wayne, I've also closed the shells down on the corner latches, and I think it's practically TM initiation to forget to put the steps up at least once.

I've also closed the shell down while packing up at home while the cord was still out -- numerous times. Thanks to Chaps' power cord conversion, that will no longer be a problem.

I forgot to attach the safety chains once -- they were laying very neatly on the tongue when we stopped the first time about 3 hours into the trip.

I've left a tire pressure gauge on the tongue before....it was amazingly still there after about 100 miles of interstate travel.

Gee, the list is getting a bit long....

Once, when I was distracted by talking with a neighbor, I disconnected the TM from the truck with no chocks on the TM. Due to the nominal slope of the street the TM rolled backwards until the safety cables stopped it. By then the breakaway switch was engaged.

If I had already disconnected the safety cables and breakaway cable the TM would have rolled further. Not a lot further, but further none the less.

Therefore I always leave the safety cables and break away switch cable in place while cranking up the tongue to disconnect, just in case.

I think I am glad it did not roll forward. I am not certain how far it will go and I do not want to be standing there to find out.

My dumbest move yet was driving 150+ miles with the electrical connector unplugged and dragging on the highway. It grinds down to a nice flat surface if you do this but is not very good for plugging in afterwards. Fortunately there was an RV parts place open in our next stop, Duluth.

OK Here it is. We got home from a camping trip in our 3124KS and could not back the camper up the driveway without HORRIBLE scraping noises. Hubby got down and looked and saw it was one of the stablizing jacks scraping. I contended that it might be that the driveway had sunk. He rolled his eyes. He contended that it might be that the truck and TM were packed differently -- I rolled my eyes. So, out we went in search of a flat parking lot in which to look at the alignment. Found one. Spent 90 minutes repositioning the parts of the hitch -- almost lost a huge spring and broke two nails (fingernails...dare I roll my eyes?). Got home and tried backing it up the driveway again. SCRAPEEEEEEEEEE! Hubby gets down and crawls under the TM only to find that the power drill had not retracted the jack all the way. Did that and backed right up the driveway, which in itself is a trial in a narrow city-house driveway. LOL

Default senior? or just plain scary??

Ours was on our maiden voyage. We had to make a very tight turn into a gas station and apparently the brake cable to the TM was too short so it pulled out locking up the trailer brakes while we were kind of blocking traffic. DH crawled under the trailer hitch to reconnect it and we found out the hard way, that he had not set the parking brake on the TV. The TV learched back a few inches while DH saw his life pass before him.

Cheri..rhymes with scary
