New fire in the Santa Cruz Mountains
There is a new fire in the Santa Cruz Mountains today, it's in Bonny Doon, in the northern part of the county. Per the 6 o'clock news it's spread to 1000 acres in very steep terrain. I dropped off my car this afternoon to have the oil changed and my service guy has a friend who is a fireman; he talked to him this afternoon just before he had to leave, and he said this is looking bad, humidity about 17%. I'm praying that the marine layer moves in and that the winds die down. There are a lot of houses up there and a lot of big trees. We've been hearing helicopters and planes flying almost non-stop (we're by the Watsonville airport), but as it darkens they are becoming less frequent. DH heard on the radio that as the local fire crews were still putting out spots from the Summit fire, they finally had a day off yesterday, and were being called back today.
Bless all of them, and the residents who are being evacuated. I hope this doesn't get as big as the Summit fire.
