Oh boy... I get it now... sorry, guess I was a little slow and didn't read between the lines or enough lines as the case may be. But I got worried there for a bit after reading this topic and blinking my eyes a few times to make sure I saw that this was still a Moderator posting... perhaps Leon had fallen off his rocker... poor Leon... but he is still wise and has made his point well!

So, here's my question... does the owner of this board have any set rules that the Moderators enforce? Where is the limit to the "Off Topic" discussions? I guess if it says "Off Topic" then it should be, huh? I have seen in some forums, for example a photography forum I am on where there is an off topic forum, but it clearly states that "all topics should in some way refer to photography, even if just in a vague sense, however ABSOLUTELY NO religious or political discussions would be tolerated". This was to keep the topics related to the theme and to discourage extreme debates or very opinionated posts. Maybe we need such a disclaimer here if the off-topic discussions are such an issue. Why argue about it and hurt people's feelings in the process when a simple rule can solve this minor problem?

I won't post in this thread again... Thanks for reading.

Brig,

I'll take it another step...

I have been a member of TrailManor Owner's Forum for the past 3 years, but I don't need the sarcastic postings of one of our Moderators (???).

I will never post anything in the OFF Topic forum again. I believe the Off Topic forum is useless and should be removed if this is how a Moderator moderates...

I think I will just let my dues expire and move on.

Even though Wayne and I usually posts on opposite sides on WDHs, I agree with most of his recent post on this thread.

I really hate to see this discontent happening here, as it does on many forums. I really don’t want to see anyone leave this forum, as I value everyone for their expertise, questions, and ideas.

Off Topic, anything goes (within reason) even mentions “what’s happening on in the world”. And yes, politics would probably be covered under that. But politics happen to cause a lot of discontent, as everyone has their own ideas. I will not respond to a political question here, and most times not to anyone but my closest friends that I know can handle my ideas and me theirs. Just because a political question is asked, doesn’t mean that there has to be a response.

I hope everyone can take a deep breath, and let this controversy pass. We need to project a positive image for the prospective owners, provide a learning experience for current owners, and be an ambassador for Trail Manors, and the great camping experience that they provide.

Chap

No one asked, but here are my $ .02

Someone wiser than me, once said the quickest way to end a friendship it to talk about religion, politics, or money. I don't think that any of these subjects belong in the "Off Topic" section of this Forum. In my opinion, views on these matters are best kept to yourself, in a place like this especially. In 99% of the cases, we are in fact exchanging comments with someone we've never met in person.

I personally have always enjoyed the civility of this Forum, which I cannot say about some of the others I belong to. This one thing has made this Forum unique - very little squabbling and backbiting. Members have been generally courteous, and generous with their suggestions, comments, and ideas. I've learned a lot from reading these Forums for the last 2-3 years, and I'm sure others have too.

It's my opinion, that we should not let seemingly trivial matters lessen or demean the spirit of this Forum. 'Nuf said.

Default I thought it was humorus...

Well, this is interesting...

I thought that Leon was just stirring up the pot with the posts and trying to make a point about " Off Topic ". Since the forum is about TM's one would suppose that even " Off Topic " would relate back in that direction. But it does not bother me one way or the other. Someone once told me that at times it was best to " sit back and watch the movie "

Happy Camping!

I would have to agree (after reflecting on it,) that this is not the forum for politics, BUT, I do believe that commenting on a campground or an area in which to camp, is relevent. After all, if there were no campgrounds, we would have a tough time using these fine trailers. The subjects are definitely related, and I for one, enjoy reading about places that my bride and I might enjoy visiting. There! I have vented and feel better for it...Jim

Wow...someone smacked the hornets nest!

With all the opinions being posted here, I will share mine.

When I think of Off Topic in regards to these forums, I think of it as relating to the TM's, but of subject matter that will not fit in any of the other areas. If you look at the current threads in the "Off Topic" forum, they are primarily still TM related.

When I visit this website I use the new posts link at the top and review all the recent posts without regard to the forum it's listed in and don't want to have to carefully choose which I read and which I don't based on the content within.

Politics have no place in this forum and should not be allowed. If you want to get into a discussions about politics there are plenty of places on the WWW to do just that...this shouldn't be one of them!

What say you o' king of Moderators?

The thing about politics and the thing about religion --- is that most people have an agenda that at some point gets in the way of community or connectedness. If we could celebrate and honor life and each other, ALL WAYS --- we would not have to sidestep any discussion topic. We're moving in this direction but ever so slowly.

I figure if it interests you and you want to read it and comment, who cares? Just as long as everyone behaves politely.

If I'm not interested in it I won't read it and I won't comment.
