For what it's worth, our old Garmin Nuvi 57LM does a great job of handling exit lane guidance, with "Lane Assist" and "Junction View". Also shows your current speed, speed limit at your present location, as well as ETA, of course. Although I can't swear to it, the ETA calculator seems to take time-of-day (and thus expected traffic) into account. Lifetime maps. No traffic indicators, no ability to choose alternate routes in case of traffic.

This unit may be so old that it is discontinued, but if so, I'm sure there is an updated version.

I think I'm going to like my Garmin.

The traffic may be useful for local driving for me. It'll be nice to know if there is a serious accident in my way on to work. However, traffic won't be as important for a long trip. If it's really blocked up somewhere, I'll try to pull off somewhere before the backup and just rest, if that's feasible or possible. Nothing like sitting still in traffic when the temperatures are 90+, AC running, and the engine begins to overheat. At least, on the I-5, there seem to be lots of "safe" shoulders to pull over onto. The Coquihalla was scary. If you got a flat, there was NO shoulder to pull over. And you have traffic coming up at 70 mph or more.

If you ever see a sign that I-5 is closed 100 miles ahead, give up for the night. Spent 5 hours waiting for a truck fire around Lake Shasta that spread to the hills and blocked all lanes in both directions. No detour was even possible. Too much of I-5 is like that, without even one alternative road.
