If someone backs into your car, ( I have had this happen once) the law / and insurance company sided with the person who backed into me, they said I had rolled into them. . Next was my wife stopped at harbor freight tools in Tempe AZ a year ago and when she came out the front driver side fender is dented and cops did nothing as it was in a parking lot. Even a lady had told her the plate number and the color of the truck here comes the but .....my wife did not get her name or number but only had info on the other vehicle.

So most dash cams have a " Parked" mode that would record these things

Or if there is a sticky situation that requires more than a word I want a camera.. Then you have bad cops not all but they are out there cameras protect everyone.

Default Dash cam

I went with this one:

http://www.amazon.com/QQLinx-Hawk-Ey...+1080P+Car+DVR

I actually bought it on NewEgg when it was on sale for $99.

Really good video quality, day and night. It's hard for cameras to do night time with headlights shining at them, but then even human eyes struggle with that. I thought it wasn't bad though, and the night vision without the headlights shining at the camera is pretty good.

If something bumps the car it starts recording, even if the car is off. It does have a little battery for that purpose. Normally it starts recording automatically when you start the car (that's when it gets power from the lighter), and records for 30 more seconds after the power goes off. The bump sensor will lock a recording if senses a collision, otherwise it overwrites the memory card as it fills up.

I bought a 12 ft micro USB cable to power it. I already have 3 other USB things plugged into the cigarette lighter, so I also bought a 4 way USB power thing. I also bought a 32 gb micro SD card for it. Then I bought a whole 'nother set-up for the other car because I liked it so much.

Send me a PM if you want some video samples

These actually look like nice cameras. I'm especially impressed by the glass lens. But I'm a bit confused about the start/stop operation. In one place, it talks about Bump-start - it starts recording when it senses a bump. In other places, it talks about Bump-stop - it freezes the recording when it senses a bump. Neither one is really what you want. Ideally, the recording should contain imagery from about 15 seconds before the impact (to show the approach of the other vehicle) to about 15 seconds after the impact (to show secondary impacts and driver reactions).

This means that it must be recording continuously (to get the "before" imagery), continue for about 15 seconds after the impact, and then freeze the recording. Is this really what they do?

For continuous recording, it would need power to come from the car battery rather than the built-in battery.

I received the Dexors X5 today dash cam so far so good. Bill the camera does run on a constant looping and will constantly re-record over previous unless it is locked. Now the motion part these have a G sensor that will automatically "lock" that image or recording when it feels a hit etc.. Now the Park mode it would need to have the cable plugged into a constant hot 12 volt outlet . My truck has 4 outlets 2 are ign. switched and 2 are always hot. So if I park it I would just have to swap the outlet I have it plugged into. Not a big deal otherwise yes that little battery will die in about 30-40 min that is in the camera. I am going to play with it today and this evening and chk out the video resolution in day and night. I like the small foot print it fits real nice behind the factory rearview mirror and windshield . I took some pics for size next to a small mouse

I've used (but, admittedly, only on occasion) the DailyRoads Voyager App for Android.

Well I have tried out this Dexors X5 cam, seems ok, the park mode was not great or maybe having an issue, but I think I want one with the gps capabilities so I am sending this one back. I found the Zond Eagle A1 which is a re branded Dexors X7 I think. it has the GPS and better resolution for about 15 bucks more than the x5 I had bought Which also has the glass lens and powered mount. Here is it's description
