what is old is new again

ran across this the other day ,
was looking at newer t.t., and just happen to see it, in the smaller Coleman t.t. the window ac mounted it the side wall, just like the early tm's ,, was mounted higher on the wall, and like the title says, what is old is new again,,
sometimes I think maybe something for tm to look at again, less weight on roof, it never leaked around the old one's, and a lot cheaper to fix,,

Could not agree more. Towed Colemans for years. Would be a good idea (or maybe an old idea.......LOL)

Two nice things about the roof mount:
1) Air flow from the ceiling gets everywhere
2) Does not use any cabinet space, I need all I can get.

really some parts of country, do not need a 13500 btu, just some ac,??

I've seen quite a few home-brew window ACs installed in popups around here. You pretty much have to have an AC in your camper down here in humidity-land.

Same here at least for the 100 days of summer. Even my 4 speed Judge has AC & so does the garage.

I don't like the side mounted AC units. Same reason that padgett mentioned. Plus, I think they are more prone to leaks.

When I lived in upstate NY, in the 80's very few homes had AC and when AC in a car was an option, less then 1/2 cars had AC up there. I also noticed back in the 90's that very few mid and lower priced campers in northern MI and NY had AC. But on the flip side there were many mid and low end campers in the south without a furnace.

I'm okay in the north without AC, but it's a must once I get any further south then those northern states.

My friend has a brand new Camplite TT that has a side wall AC unit high on the wall. The intention was to have an AC unit that runs on one Honda 2000. There is however an option to get a roof unit that is probably a much higher BTU unit like TrailManor has.

He says unless you start that wall mount unit well before you need AC, the unit has significant difficulty overcoming a hot camper. His camper is only a 16' unit.

What would be real cool of an idea, no pun intended, is for Dometic to design an AC roof unit that has say a 8000 btu mode and a 15,000 btu mode so that if you only have one Honda 2000 unit you run it earlier and longer with some sacrifice in cooling. But if you have two Hondas or plugged into the park power source, you run the AC on the 15k btu mode.

Ours came with a side A/C, it was mounted in the cabinet below and to the right of the stove/oven. It came with a drip pan with a drain hose in the middle that emptied below the trailer. We got rid of the AC because we don't really need it here in CA (plus we dry camp mostly during the summer) but kept the drip pan and hose in case we ever want to put in another one. We have a nice spot for our microwave now.
