Default Mounting a MaxxAir / Propping Front Shell Up

My TM is in my carport, so I can't open it completely. I have released the latches, and the top shell opened partly. I am trying to install a MaxxAir exterior vent cover over the exhaust vent. It looks like, if I can prop the front shell open, I should have adequate access. Of course, the shell wants to settle to its lowest position. Just wondering if anyone has tackled this or has any suggestions of a good way to partially raise the shell. Apart from the DW holding it, which strikes me as a great solution, but would not be good for my marriage. Thank you.

I installed a MaxxAir in my garage with the TM collapsed. Don't know why you would need to raise the shell as it just installs on the top of the existing vent. Check the instruction sheet which came with the MaxxAir.

Thanks Scott. That is good to know. I will re-check the instructions. But I thought the vent had to be open to secure the retainer screw, and I assume the only way to open the vent is from the TM interior.

If yours uses the angle brackets with screws and nuts the vent will have to be open.

I would simply get a couple 2x4's, cut them to length, and set them upright from the ground to the underside of the edges of the shell. Don't put any substantial weight on the roof, of course, as the 2x4's are not a good structural support.

I mounted my max airs right to the wood frame around the vents

Certainly your choice, but not the recommended way to mount them. The angle brackets are used so there is a gap at the base of the Maxxair cover for drainage. Mounting them directly to the shell or vent frame can trap water.
