Default Swing Hitch

What is a swing hitch, and would I need one?

The swing hitch is the coupler end of the hitch. The coupler end and the jack post swivel to the side to shorten the length of the frame. Imagine a triangle? Then cut off the front tip and place it next to the frame on one side only. A large majority of the TM's built in the last 10 -12 years were made this way from the factory. It allows the TM to fit in a standard length garage. A 2720 has a 20 ft frame. By swinging the hitch, it reduces the length to 18ft.

If it were not for the swing hitch then I would have a 2619 in my garage instead of a 2720.

The 2720 would be 4 inches too long otherwise.

The construction of the swing hitch is second to none. It is welded and built very, very well and worth 100% of the cost in my opinion. My 2720 would never fit in my garage otherwise.

What an invention!

I agree that it is built very well now.

In 2005 mine failed at a weld. I am pretty sure that because of my failure there was a design change.

The factory could have been more helpful in repairing my failure. Fortunately, the dealer ponied up to the table and took care of it. Unfortunately, Stan at Dinuba RV is no longer in the RV business. He was great.

I have verified with the factory that this is the case, specifically. No need to be "pretty" sure anymore!

We have the swing hitch on our 2720sl and as soon as we get home it is getting welded shut. It is just a a failure waiting to happen. May have to stop by a welding shop before we make it home as the gap is getting wider

Now I know why my feet drag from the swing I mounted on my hitch...just kidding. The Pair, did the factory indicate what year they made the design change?

Just as a guess:

1. I report the cracked frame, with pictures.

2. TM provides me with instructions (engineering change) for a welder to follow to repair it.

3. Before the instructions arrive at my house in the mail the shop floor (or frame supplier) also has them.

The visible change is an additional piece of strap metal welded onto the bottom of the box tube frame on the street side underneath the weld for the swing arm bracket.

This would have been early 2006. I took delivery at the end of March 2005 and the one year warranty was still in effect.

If you dig in the archives my photos are still there.

Sometime in 2006, it seemed, because they wanted to make sure I had a 2007 or later model when I was asking the questions.

I, too, am another one that wouldn't have a 2720(SL) without a swing hitch, wouldn't fit!
