Discount Camp Clubs Are they worth it?
Today I seen an old topic revived so decided it might help others to start a new fresh one on Discount Camping Clubs.
Below Comments by my wonderful wife who writes much better than me:
We have been a member of Good Sam & Camp Club USA for a few years now. We thought that CC USA would be much better & save us more but have found some frustrating things that go along with it.
Here is our findings: GS has been the best & gives you 10% off at the parks that accept GS. The parks usually give you that discount anytime of the year so it really is the better of the two. Now for CC, it is a discount of 50% off but we have found that most parks that do accept that one like to only give that to you at certain times of the year. So you should call & ask them what the conditions are before just thinking you get that discount. We have found that the CG's that accept it only give you 50% Off when they feel like it.
One park that we frequently go to only gives it to you during the week, it is only off the daily rate, not the other fees they charge such as; extra people, creek side, 50 amp, etc. This park also will not give it to you during holidays, busy times like when car shows are in town, etc. So it's not technically 50% off anytime. Also, they tend to not like you to pay by credit card so we have had to bring cash or check to finish paying for the trip but they do take a credit card over the phone to put a deposit on your spot.
In our opinion, if you can only do one then GS is the better one of the two because the CG's are usually pretty happy giving you that discount. They really shouldn't be in the other discount programs if they are not willing to give you that discount. There was only one park that would give us that 50% off, even during July 4th holiday, that we have been to. CC USA is a good one to have & you will earn your money back as long as you do plan on taking trips & staying at the parks in that discount program. Just be sure to ask what their rates are when you make the reservations. Our findings have been that the parks usually will give better treatment to the ones who stay without the discount clubs & nickel & dime the ones that do have it. If they are not willing to treat everyone the same then don't be a part of it in the first place.
