Default Vents for dual batteries in 2720SL

Howdy folks -

I have a 2000 2720SL, and am thinking about replacing my existing 12v battery with two 6v batteries. With the 2720SL, the battery is mounted in the rear compartment instead of the tongue. The battery sits in an enclosed case (more enclosed than those black battery boxes) with an exhaust hose that is vented out the rear wall.

So, how have you folks with this model vented both batteries? I called our local dealer, and they said they just install 2 black battery boxes in there, so the gas just vents into the compartment, and not to the outside. Doesn't sound like a great idea.

I thought about mounting the 2nd battery on the opposite side of the door, but the hose wouldn't be vertical enough to vent the gas when stretching over to T into the existing hose. And I'd prefer not to cut out another hole in the wall.

And I haven't been able to fit a sealed box big enough to fit 2 batteries that vents through a hose fitting.

Any suggestions?

Wow, Tim. Thanks for pointing that out. I had searched a bit looking for something like that, but obviously wasn't using the right keywords. That thread ROCKS. Exactly what I needed. mjlaupp did an excellent job documenting the project.

Has anyone else done anything differently?

I didn't realize there was room in front of the axle to mount a spare tire on the 2720SL.
