Default Garage Door 8 feet wide - Question?

???I bought a TM-2619 my wife & I love it. Will pick it up soon. Question? The main reason we bought it, was because it will fit in the garage. BUT I forgot to measure it. The 2619 has an awning. So will this fit on the 8 foot wide garage, or do we need to order one without the awning? ???

jgilliam, we bought a 3124 and then I measured the garage door height. I had to call the dealer and ask exactly how tall my trailer was. With the low profile A/C, I have about an inch to spare.

I just went out and measured the width of our trailer... There is a back "porch light" that sticks out a couple of inches on one side and the Awning on the other. My trailer is just over eight feet by an inch and a quarter (97.25&quot.

You might find the following possibilities helpful; they are things I was thinking about for my situation while I waited for dealer's call. Some garages are taller or wider if the trim around the garage door is customized. I thought about removing a few feet of trim where there A/C had to pass. Also the TM can be customized a little: you may find it easier to do without the back light than the awning. With nothing but the trailer (no lights or awning) an eight foot opening is going to be tight.

We did have to customize both the trailer and the garage to fit with each other. We demolished cabinets at the end of the garage and installed a swing around tongue on the trailer. I hope all this helps and you are able to successfully solve your snug fit.

Here are a few numbers that might help. We have a 2004 2720 that I just did some width measurements on. I got a base width of 7' 8" that did not include a 1/4" or so on each side that the hold-down latches, etc. that stick out beyond that on my unit -- it may be a bit less. Our unit has an outside light on both the door side and the non-door side of the TM, the outdoor lights measure between 2 1/4" and 2 1/2" on each side. The awning measures just shy of 3 1/2" in width (which is wider than the door side light). Sounds a little tight, but hopefully you will be able to play around with the numbers a bit and find something that works for your garage!

Best of luck,

Kevin

One thing is for sure. If you are going to back your TM into a garage with only an inch of clearance, you aren't going to do it with your tow vehicle.

If your driveway is hard (concrete or aphalt), and level, and there is no lip at the garage entrance, and you are feeling strong, you *might* get away with using the dolly wheel that came with your TM, but even this is iffy. I think you will need a hitch dolly, one with pneumatic tires, to maneuver the hitch around enough.

If your driveway more challenging in any way, you will probably need a motorized dolly. They aren't cheap, but they are a lot cheaper than catching the awning on the edge of the doorway and ripping it off as you try to back in.

We have had a lot of discussion on dollies here on the board. I suggest you hit the search button, type "dolly" into the search box, and set the search time to something like 700 days.
