Default Towing a 3124 with a Land Rover Discovery?

Anyone tried this? I will be within weight range, rated for 5500#, even with my husband and dogs, but what about the 100" wheel base? Will I be in trouble, or do I just need to buy another tow vehicle? If anyone has experience with Trailmanors and Discoverys please let me know. We towed it yesterday with a 2007 Sierra and it was much easier to pull than our current trailer which is only 2500#.

We tow a TM 3023 with our 2003 LR Disco SE7 with no issues.

We do have a EazLift Weight Distribution Bar which is a must have IMO.

Now you probably already know this but you will need a Charge wire since LR didn't come from factory with one installed. I converted our factory plug that is basically useless in the US to a 7 Blade RV plug.

The TM only reduces our mpg by 1-2 miles. I now also can monitor my computer info which has temps etc with a portable permanent OBDII Reader. Now it does fine at highway speeds & sometimes a little above accept when going up steep inclines where I always slow down so as not to stress Drive Train unnecessarily.

If you have any specific concerns let me know & I will try to answer.

Keep in mind my experience is with a 3023 which is somewhat less heavy than yours.

P.S. I also tow our boat with no issues using the Surge Brakes. So IMO even though the Disco is a short wheelbase vehicle it is heavy for its size & tows well.

Default Thank You

Thank you for all the information. I recently have been trying to downsize my life and make things simpler. I purchased a Volvo V70 wagon to use as an everyday driver, and replace the Discovery, because it still had a towing capacity of 3300# and should be able to pull the 2500# trailer. I was wrong. Towing completely empty with the only thing in the Volvo being me, well lets just say it wasn't pretty. My monitoring system shows I normally get 28 - 30 on the highway. That dropped to 8 with the trailer. Even with a transmission cooler I am not willing to do that to my car, much less the safety issues involved. So I figured once I had to have a separate to vehicle anyway, I might as well not be as cramped in the trailer, so we bought a TM 3124, the 3 dogs are 100# each, and we don't have to crawl over one another to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. As long as the Discovery can tow it I will just keep it and fix a few of its issues. Do you ever carry a generator and fuel with you? How do you handle that? Maybe at some point I will look into a Tundra or Titan, I can't handle the thought of an F250 or something like that in my driveway, but my general goal right now is to get rid of stuff. Once again thank you for all the information. We are currently trying to size the distribution hitch.

Hello again I can honestly tell you the Disco is a GREAT tow vehicle as long as you remember it is a shorter wheelbase. It is heavier than most similar SUVs although IMO there isn't a comparison in all reality. I don't have any special equipment per-say. Although before I ever started towing I upgraded the Rotors (Drilled & Slotted) & Brakes (Pad with great grabbing & very little dust)

I also run with a EAZ-Lift bar WDH which out of the box is a good fit with Anti Sway Bar just for the extra safety even though probably not needed.

I would be glad to talk with you on the phone if you need more info.

I am an avid Land Rover Owner so I really understand this vehicle & its limitations better than most although I am always learning. The best thing I have purchased has been my Ultra Gauge which helps you know live status of the different sensors.

I can also tell you I put my P3 Controller where the Ash Tray went & it was a great fit & not in the way since we don't smoke.

Oh it is cool there may be another Disco user on TMO. I have been towing with ours since 2008 when we purchased our 3023 if that helps any.
