Default Heat

Can we run the heater while dry camping? Will this quickly deplete our battery?
Thanks in advance for any info

Which heater ? The floor unit runs on propane. 5KW in the AC runs on 120v. Heater that depletes the battery is in the fridge.

The furnace does use battery to run the fan. I usually only ran it a couple nights before I would charge the battery so it would not get below 40% and that was on pretty cold nights and it kicked in frequently. Others have posted using the furnace more nights so it depends on how cold and how long it runs. I now have a solar panel and never have we not had a fully charged battery by the end of each day and that is well worth the money if you dry camp for several days. Even on overcast days it would charge nicely. So yes the furnace will deplete the battery eventually.

I mostly dry camp and have used my heater when needed. It will use up battery power as MT Camper mentioned, so I use the heater just to warm it up in the morning and before bed. I also have a solar panel and that does help with recharging my battery, if I get good sun. If I am planning on camping during the colder months, then I bring my Heater Buddy to supplement my heating needs.

How much current does the heater fan pull ? Does it only run when heating ?

The fan runs only when heating. I also have 100w solar, and have used it three nights in a row, with plenty of charge back into the battery during the day. Down to 10°overnight, and heater on about 25% of the time. Don't know what it draws, but I have no problem using it as much as desired.

The fan in the furnace draws about 2.5 amps when it runs. The furnace consumes no power when it's off.
