Where I drive there is so much traffic that I don't dare pull over on the freeway to pick up a tire tread.

I found a washed up flip-flop on the beach when we went camping this summer, it was just blown out, the sole was in good shape so I'm going to use that. It's about an inch thick.

I was sitting on the beach and looking around and saw the flip flop (we used to call them thongs in the old days). After an hour or so I realized why I was so fascinated with it. I needed it for something. Took it back to the truck and stuck it under the seat.

Free is good.

well an update on the rubber I bought from Amazon, I guess being in the hot desert sun of Arizona, that rubber did not hold up well the fronts have broke in two. I now have found some tire tread off the side of a highway while traveling and going to use that for the front. the rear amazon rubber still is fine I am guess the sun did not get to them as much because of where I park it.

Here is a chart on various types of rubber products. Apparently, the SBR does not hold up well to weathering as Craig has mentioned.

Craig's post at the top of this thread says 1/2 inch thick. I bought a piece of the same stuff at the same time, and though I can't get at it at the moment, memory says that's about right.

I must have read this post 4 times last night looking for the thickness. I had thought it was 1/2" but it was late and I just couldn't seem to find it. Guess i should have just gone to bed

Thanks!

I will need to change them this year. Was wondering if anyone can see any harm in making them larger. I was thinking maybe 2x the width, for larger surface contact area?
